Ledger - whose performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight" has ignited Oscar buzz - died of a potent cocktail of prescription drugs and OxyContin, the latter of which was likely obtained illegally. His death was ruled an accidental drug overdose by the medical examiner. And NYPD investigators closed their probe without interviewing Olsen because, they said, they got all the cooperation they needed from others. That decision, however, surprised some observers, considering Olsen's role as a potential witness. Instead of calling emergency responders after getting the call from her masseuse, Olsen telephoned her bodyguards in the Big Apple, telling them to race to Ledger's Broome Street home, where they arrived just as paramedics got to the scene. The US Drug Enforcement Administration, which opened an investigation to determine the sources of Ledger's drugs, was not as sanguine as the NYPD about talking to the 4-foot-11, 90-pound Olsen. The feds contacted her lawyer, Michael Miller, several times recently seeking her cooperation, but Miller has told the feds Olsen won't be interviewed unless she gets immunity, exercising her constitutional rights. According to sources, all of the drugs in Ledger's body and discovered nearby in prescription bottles were legally obtained from two physicians - with the exception of OxyContin, a powerful painkiller. Investigators "are trying to ID the source of the OxyContin," a source said. "Did it come from a dealer, from a friend? If he had a bottle from a friend, was it taken by someone else before police responded? That is what is trying to be determined." The DEA probers were also aggressive with the NYPD, the sources said, and were forced to threaten to obtain a grand-jury subpoena before getting the department's Ledger files. An NYPD spokesman said the department never balked at handing over the files and did so after receiving a routine federal administrative subpoena. Asked whether he asked for immunity for his client, Olsen's lawyer said, "We are not going to comment on whether there is a criminal investigation," and declined to speak further. The sources said Ledger's employees reached out to Olsen because they panicked at finding his body and did not know what to do. i'm not seeing it. she's offering to help them, but at the same time she realizes that this is a VERY high profile case, and she's obviously not interested in getting caught up in some bullshit just because she tried to help out. anyone who has paid any attention to the legal system knows that investigators LOVE to tie people up in cases like this with obstruction charges and etc, to basically force information out of people. that's why lots of confessions and identifications and stuff end up getting thrown out of evidence. cause if you've got a felony hanging over your head and the easiest way out is to point out the guy the cops want, thats whats gonna happen lots of the time (unfortunately)

of course you have no right to immunity. but you do have the right to keep your mouth shut and not be accused for that reason

too bad most americans have the brain of a tiny chimpanzee, and they'd likely convict someone in court simply because they "seem suspicious". its like they have this whole concept backwards, the whole "reasonable doubt" thing... it goes like this:

^^ look, i understand that you're coming from the point of view that's seen the other side of the law a number of times, but for the rest of us, the ones that GENERALLY stay on the better side, it seems very strange for her to care one way or another if she has nothing to hide...i can understand if she's nervous because she gave him some prescription pills and she doesn't want to get into trouble for it, but what other possible reason would she have to not just talk to them? if she's done NOTHING wrong whatsoever, what could it hurt?

i mean if somoene were willing to testify completely to a question by the police it would most likely involve recounting the full day or anytime spent with the deceased

it's her right to keep her mouth shut. the cops have proven time and time again that it's okay to drag innocents in. if you really believe that the police never charge people who are innocent/not related to the crime in order to secure a witness for the state, then you're more than ignorant... you're straight up naive. you go ahead and tell the cops whatever you want about your life, but there are only a small number of rights guaranteed to me by my birth in this country, and i'm going to use all of them.

this is where you're either a complete moron or intentionally stupid...i'm not arguing that she doesn't have the RIGHT...my point is that i can't think of a reason she would feel she NEEDED to keep her mouth shut UNLESS she has something to hide (in that, she's broken the law in some way, or she's done something that she doesn't want the public to know about)...either way, i can honestly say that i have no such fears, and i can't imagine why you guys are so terrified of the law...you might think the US is bad, but you obviously have no experiences outside the tiny locale of this country, and that's really just sad (though i can understand why you're so naive)

And that's the reason those video lectures on how to talk to cops tell you to keep your mouth shut. Most people have something to hide. Hell, most people are guilty of a felony or two. Sure, most of those aren't violent and aren't often even enforced, but the fact that a jerk-off cop could ruin pretty much anyone on here is reason enough to stay as silent as possible unless you're putting someone else at risk.

That being said, it's not that she's refusing to talk it's that she's agreeing to talk but only with immunity that has so many people assuming she's partly culpable. This is somewhat of a stretch, but the fact that she's willing to talk with immunity suggests she does have something to say and feels it would be incriminating. This might just be a bonehead move (in terms of PR) on part of her lawyer, but it does suggest she's under the impression that talking without immunity could lead to jail time. It would not have looked nearly so bad had she just refused to talk without the demand for immunity.

thats all i'm trying to say. I don't blame her for wanting to talk. If I had nothing to do with it I'd refuse to talk as well, considering it is high profile and I have nothing to give them. If they went and got a subpeona then fine I'd talk to them (assuming I have nothing to hide). To go and immediately ask for immunity when they haven't even ordered you to talk yet...begs the question as to why the need, unless there's something to hide.
