"Many of you getting this email have adopted from us in the past. Hopefully through that adoption you gained a beloved family member. NMAR accomplished 356 adoptions in 2007 alone, and nearly 170 thus far this year. Sadly, short of either a miracle or some unbelievable outpouring from sponsors yet unknown, due to lack of funding we are going to have to close at the end of this year. It will put an end to 6 years of trying to save as many dogs as we possibly could. We feel so privileged to be able to say that in our years of existence, approximately 1300 dogs made it from some pretty rough situations into some wonderful, loving homes.

One of our primary bill payers has had his job of 28 years outsourced to India. Without that support we can't continue. Although many kind individuals have made donations throughout the years, we have never gotten any formal funding or sponsorship of any kind. We do not now, nor have we ever, paid ourselves any salaries for the time we spend running the rescue. The majority of the rescue's expenses have always been paid from our own pockets.

In this world, you just never know how information may travel, or who may have suggestions or ideas. Although it is a long-shot, we wanted to make all of you aware of the situation in case you know of individuals or organizations who may be able to help the rescue to continue in some capacity. Please feel free to share our story as you see fit. Any day now, you may even see a story about our dilemma in The Charlotte Observer. We have been speaking with the reporter who published Gunny's story (more on Gunny later) and had an Observer photographer come and do a photo shoot to accompany the story.

In the meantime, we still have dogs that desperately need homes and bills that will have to continue to be paid. If you have thought about adding to your canine family please take a look at our website and see if any of our sweet dogs might fit into your home. If you have friends thinking of adopting please tell them about us.

Lastly if you can help with a donation, it would be so incredibly appreciated. Our dogfood bill alone is nearly $800.00 a month. Of course that doesn't even factor in the vast medical bills that accumulate, nor any of the other monthly bills accrued in order to keep the dogs safe and healthy.

On a happier note.... Some of you are familiar with Gunny's story. Many of you have probably never heard of him. Either way please take a moment to watch this amazing video of one of our best stories ever. This is why we've spent years saving dogs. His spirit and will to survive are what it's all about. On the sadder side of this story, it looks like Gunny will need another surgery, for which we have committed to pay. There is just so much we want to be able to do for all of these dogs, and it breaks our hearts that it seems we will no longer be able to do that.

Thank you for all of your support over the years and for taking the time to read about our current situation. We greatly appreciate all that you have already done for us, as well as anything you may be able to do for the dogs now.

Sincerely,
Terry, Beth and our group of dedicated volunteers

punchmonk and I got our dog Maggie from the NMAR a year ago today. We received this email over the weekend. If you are able to make a donation to this great organization, please do. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please consider the NMAR.
