I was wondering if I should trust carfax or autocheck to check the car history. Does anyone know which one is more reliable? Are there any other (better) websites one could use? Also, I would be grateful if someone could mail me the report for the following VIN: JM1BJ222X10449591.Thanks,Santosh

i'll be nice since you're new, but use the search in the future before making a new thread. you can probably find the answer to most basic questions. there are already multiple carfax related threads on here including one "official" one where you can request a vin to be run and/or ask questions.anyway, you shouldn't really "trust" either one. both are good to get a general history on a car and possibly pick up on a major problem if you know how to interpret the data. there's still tons of things that are easily hidden though. on the other hand, there are things on reports that might make a car look worse than it is. it's just another tool in addition to things like having the vehicle looked over by a shop and most importantly common sense. don't take anything for gospel.[Edited on July 31, 2008 at 11:39 AM. Reason : ^haha, think about my ram... clean history! lol]

I used a carfax to jew down the price on a car I completely intended to buy anyway once. The guy lived in a 600,000 house and told me up front he wanted to sell because the note was due. It worked pretty well.

I have never noticed one or the other to be more accurate, however I have seen wrecked cars not come back as wrecked cars on Carfax before. More dealers use Autocheck. Either service is fine.
