Recently I had to have a blood and urine sample analyzed for a life insurance policy. I got the results back and everything is fine except for the amount of glucose in my blood. The paper says the expected value is between 70 - and something else, but mine was reported as a 60. It had been about 7 hours since I had last eaten so I figured that might be a reason why it was low but still...In the past few days since then I have increased the amount of food I eat that has natural sugars in it. Is this the right way to approach this?BTW, I am not obese and I do not have Diabetes.[Edited on July 31, 2008 at 9:13 AM. Reason : blood]

umm... you had low blood sugar... just eat closer to your next exam ... should be fine..

That is what I figured was the cause of the low glucose level but I did have a soda about 2 hours before the test. *shrug*

Do not try to make diagnoses or health changes yourself based on reports that you are not qualified to read. Take the report to a real doctor and ask him what the actual effect of a "60 blood sugar" score is and what, if anything, you should do about it.

That is true, but I figured it couldn't hurt to eat more fruits and stuff like that.

you shouldnt worry about this

60mg/dL is really not horrible, but it's not necessarily good. everyone has their threshold below which their mental status becomes somewhat altered. we typically like to see it somewhere around 100mg/dL.quick way to bring it up is non-refined sugars (i.e. sucrose, fructose, etc.) from soda, fruit, etc. i'm not sure if they sell them OTC but we have these tubes of what's basically straight glucose called Glutose.to maintain it, eat something like a peanut butter sandwich.honestly, however, the fact that you last ate seven hours ago could EASILY explain this. i wouldn't change anything about what you were doing.if you're really worried about it, go see a doctor.also, be glad it was in your blood and not in your urine.]

I don't think you should be too concerned about this.I actually am hypoglycemic and I find the best way to keep my levels up is to eat lots of small meals throughout the day and incorporate a little amount of protein into them. There's a huge difference between days that I do that and days that I don't. I've had dangerously low levels more times than I'd like to remember.

I'm slightly hypoglycemic. Keep it up by eating lots of small meals throughout the day, each with a little protein. I don't eat anything with lots of sugar without protein, it just makes my blood sugar crash later after it reaches high levels. Also, I try to eat enough fiber. I think that helps.
