and Champ Bailey was robbed even morehe was better on offense and defense than Woodson the very next year and didnt win shit^ see, hes even accurate with his rectum[Edited on July 28, 2008 at 10:46 PM. Reason : d]
7/28/2008 10:46:05 PM
^I always thought you won it based on how you stacked up against other players that season, not how you stacked up against the previous season's winner
7/28/2008 10:48:00 PM
the point is that defensive players never win it, except for that one year... so people claimed it was because he was a great two way player... well, Bailey was a better two way player next year and wasnt even close to winning.... that one year was an anomaly
7/28/2008 10:49:16 PM
Defensive players don't win it b/c 12 ints, 20 sacks, or 120 tackles aren't sexy stats as 4,000 passing yds, 2,000 rushing yds, or 20 tds
7/28/2008 10:52:38 PM
well, no shit... this isnt about why they dont win it... I agree they should win it more, Dorsey was the best player in college football last year along with Tebow, voting wasnt close. I'm just saying why that one year?
7/28/2008 10:54:20 PM
B/c he was a self publicizing CB who always made his big plays in big games (had the 3 biggest plays in helping to beat tOSU to solidify UM's spot in the national title game)Plus, a DT will never win the Heisman b/c run-stuffing, taking double-teams, & getting qb hurries isn't gonna cut it for that awardAs for why one hasn't won it before or since, I suppose its b/c there aren't enough defensive players with the stats to make a run for it that publicize themselves like Woodson did[Edited on July 28, 2008 at 11:01 PM. Reason : .]
7/28/2008 11:00:05 PM
big game, 1 gameand the self publicizing is what I am talking about...he didnt really deserve it
7/28/2008 11:12:21 PM
there really is no stat for completely shutting down the opposing receiver game after game, so i see why you are upsetbut, luckily the voters must have actually watched the games he played in, something you may not have had the opportunity to do
7/28/2008 11:33:05 PM
Best player on the best team, that's what wins it. Did Eric Crouch deserve it? Not a chance, but he was the best player on his team. Or you can just admit that this has nothing to do with other defensive players winning the Heisman (come on, Bailey only had 3 picks in '98), but that you simply wanted Manning to win it.
7/28/2008 11:37:45 PM
^^ and ^haha, contradicting each other... Bailey completely shut down that side of the field, they never threw to him so of course he didnt have INTs. Bailey was a much better player than Woodson and thats shown in the NFL, one is a Hall of Famer, the other isnt. (but but the NFL doesnt have anything to do with college).and its not always the best player on the best team or Dorsey would have won it last year. All Woodson did was show up big in one game and put a fucking rose in his teeth and ESPN ate that shit up. They (Chris Fowler) even admitted that they didnt want the ceremony to be boring as shit (with Manning winning it) and they talked up Woodson like a motherfucker just to make it interesting and then were like "oh shit, he won".You bitches no I dont call out media conspiracy lightly (only when its in my favor ) But seriously, Fowler admitted that shit.
7/28/2008 11:48:25 PM
^didn't have it thrown to him as much as Woodson, yet he had more tackles and less picks? I'll play along
7/28/2008 11:50:41 PM

7/28/2008 11:52:34 PM
AND 50 receptions, 817 yards, 6 TDsif only they could have played a Big Ten scheduleand Wuerffel was in a freak offense[Edited on July 28, 2008 at 11:58 PM. Reason : d]

please tell me what i missed, this is great
7/28/2008 11:58:13 PM
none of who are old enough to remember can honestly say that Woodson was SO dominating as a defensive player to go against the decades of Heisman votes and be THE defensive player to wineven if we say for the sake of argument that they were equal players, just the Heisman bias to offense should have gave it to Manning (right or wrong). Woodson was good, but he wasnt the greatest fucking defensive player ever. there have been plenty of defensive players who were much much better in college over the course of a season and they werent even in the top 3 heisman votes[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:03 AM. Reason : d]
7/29/2008 12:00:31 AM
^Again, if they played in a season w/ better offensive performances than Woodson did then it doesn't matter how they faired in Heisman voting.I'm not saying I would have voted for Woodson, but you can't continue to compare one season's candidate to another season's candidate
7/29/2008 12:07:56 AM
sure you can... thats the point, that normally it doesnt matter what the stats are when it comes to offense vs. defense for the award. Its not like there just wasnt any offensive players worth a shit that year, PLENTY of them had the stats to win (Manning, Moss, Leaf, Ricky Williams etc)... but that one year defense/two way players suddenly counted but then never have again (Bailey had crazy offensive stats for a defensive player the next year and was just as good if not better on defense than Woodson)[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:13 AM. Plenty people remember, and remember that he returned kicks as well as being a two way player. We all know Peyton never beat Florida, but did he ever even come close, as in, have a chance late in the 4th? But then again, I guess you could always say, rings: Manning=1, Woodson= Tuck rule victim...but yea, Woodosn getting the Heisman over Manning with all that goes into the voting was a coup of epic proportions thatwill NEVER happen again.[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:18 AM. Reason : .]
7/29/2008 12:15:58 AM
Champ returned kicks tooand beating or not beating Florida should have nothing to do with it, winning games is a team effort... Manning was flat out the best player in college that year, wasnt even close if you watched the games.and the 96 game was 35-29, but that has nothing to do with anything3800 yards37 TDs11 INTsin a conservative offense in the SEC, that wins the Heisman 99% of the time[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:23 AM. Reason : d]
7/29/2008 12:18:12 AM
your insane if you don't think Woodson's stats specifically against tOSU in the last game of the regular season didn't count for anything, as in, be the cherry on top. Did Tennessee even when the SEC East while Manning was there? Also, I remember an argument where you rode Spurrier's jock all the way to Gainesville, is this why you like him, because he beat Manning all the time and you figure if you can't beat them, join them?? Edit- oh good lord, you're trying to throw Bailey into a conversation where Ricky Williams had broken a record that stood for what 20 years, come on man...[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:22 AM. Reason : .]
7/29/2008 12:20:59 AM
yup, and won the SEC Championship game as well... in 1997and no idea what argument you are talking about or what you mean about ride his jock to Gainesville as he wasnt there during the time I have been on here... do I think hes a good coach? no shit I do, hes a fucking great offensive coach, one of the best ever. I can objectively say that, to deny it would be fucking retarded, but that doesnt mean I have to like him. (I am glad he is back in the SEC though)and my whole argument is that the ONE game against Ohio State counted too damn much3800 yards37 TDs11 INTsin a conservative offense in the SECwinning the hardest division in the hardest conferencewinning the hardest conference championship gameyou CANT tell me that that should be the year that a defensive player suddenly wins, and much less a fucking CB[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:38 AM. Reason : d]
7/29/2008 12:24:18 AM
7/29/2008 12:41:59 AM
dammit, THATS my point... IF a CB/two way player should ALWAYS be considered then Bailey should have been higher in the vote or won it outright the next year... but he didnt... that ONE year there was this random high number of votes for a defensive player that has NEVER been seen again even though there have been plenty of years just as good if not better... Bailey came in fucking 7th the year after, was just as good on defense, MUCH better on offense in a harder conference. Dorsey was as dominant as any D-lineman ever last year, came in 9thSo why in that ONE year, with PLENTY of deserving offensive players did a defensive/two way player all of a sudden win?[Edited on July 29, 2008 at 12:49 AM. 7/29/2008 12:45:06 AM
Like it or not, the Heisman has a lot to do with what your team accomplishes. Woodson was the marquee player on a team that accomplished more than Tennessee or UGA.
7/29/2008 2:02:28 AM
7/29/2008 8:52:00 AM
That has to do with Michigan being on every Saturday and UGA getting one or two televised games though.
7/29/2008 9:28:31 AM
It has to do with Bailey not getting talked about either.
7/29/2008 9:30:50 AM
PEYTON MANNING LEAVES TENNESSEE.........................AND THEY WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
7/29/2008 10:09:25 AM
This is an NC Sate message board. We only talk about things that happened in the past as the future is bleak.
7/29/2008 10:15:28 AM
^^^^^ just to prove a point, and I dont know how you dont remember Champ Bailey... and Georgia was on national TV all the time^^ now thats just dumb
7/29/2008 11:14:45 AM
DUMB?????That is a FACT!!the vols were supposed to be so awesome with PEYTON (who couldnt even win a conference title)but when he left, they won the national championship with TEE (I'm a really dark black man) MARTIN
7/29/2008 11:37:31 AM
ok, you have to be a trollbecause just a few posts up I noted that they won the conference title... in 1997 actually... the Heisman year...and there are tons of good players that come off of good teams and then the teams go on to win the NC the next year... hell, LSU alone probably had 6-7 players drafted off the 2006 team and then they won it all in 07
7/29/2008 2:05:28 PM
Just face the facts, man... no use lying to yourself.UT was better when they were let go from the Peyton Manning chain that was holding them down...
7/29/2008 2:11:47 PM
It's ok Jay, Peyton just wasn't good enough... wasn't his year....
7/29/2008 2:21:38 PM
hahaha
7/29/2008 2:21:48 PM
I think it's obvious that it was a surprise to a lot of people that Manning did not win, but Woodson was not chopped liver either. Jaybee, you often label a lot of people on these boards as "homers." The opinions you're spewing about this particuluar issue absolutely reek of "homerism." To prove it, go on to the scout or rivals site of Michigan and you'll get a thousand good reasons why Woodson not only won it, but should have won it easily, and there were plenty of non Mich/Tenn voters who voted for Woodson. A 3.7:1 TD:INT ratio is not that impressive for a Heisman QB, especially double digit INT's. I hope you can see that, if not, you're a definite homer on this issue. Jason "no athleticism" White was something sick like 7:1, and yes the SEC defenses are tougher, but the Big XII D's aren't a slouch either.
7/29/2008 2:22:03 PM
Yeah, Jaybee, stop being such a homo
7/29/2008 2:22:53 PM
Manning got screwed over big time on that deal...Other than that I was too young so, I don't really have anything to add other than, Go Gators![Edited on July 29, 2008 at 2:56 PM. Reason : ]

7/29/2008 6:04:22 PM
^maybe run up the score like Mike Leach & put up TTU QB numbers?
