Anything special i should know. All I know is how i'm getting there and where I'm staying. Probably going alone. Is it safe? I've heard kidnapping and organ stealing is bad in central america. Is panama bad? How much will I have to shell out for a quick passport?

My best friend from graduate school lives there. I haven't been before (going in Spring 2009), but from what she says it's nice. Obviously it's a big city so there are the good parts and the bad parts.

Just make sure that you blast "Panama" by Van Halen the entire time so you don't look like a tourist.

i went there a few years ago -- it's safe enough but there are definitely some sketchy areas to avoid...

i really enjoyed it, definitely go check out the canal locks -- i think i went to the ones at miraflores, there's a visitor center there with a little museum and all that's pretty cool
