A friend took me out to a quarry back in colllege. I think it was over in the Wendell area. It was a pretty good drop down to the water, maybe 20 to 30 feet. There were obviously No Trespassing signs posted but there were a good 20 people out there swimming/diving when we arrived. Does anybody know how to find this place?
7/21/2008 11:15:41 AM
yes, i can tell you exactly how to get there but i'm not going to.i can also tell you that i had to do almost 40 hours of community service for going there.its an awesome place to go but so many assholes go there and trash the place, fuck it all up and leave all their crap along the whole trail. i wish people would forget about it.
7/21/2008 11:25:44 AM
^what he said.
7/21/2008 11:26:53 AM
why are there trails if there are no trespassing signs?]

bttt
7/21/2008 11:29:41 AM
^^ive been out there a few times. Last time I was there I came back and found 2 cop cars parked behind mine The water is freakishly clear though. I wish you could pay to dive in it
7/21/2008 11:31:43 AM
^ i thought that was where the diving classes at ncsu had their final (well, you could choose there or the outer banks of the keys)
7/21/2008 11:58:16 AM
It think it was. I believe my friend found out about it when he took his diving final there. That was a long time ago (probably 6 or 7 years if not more) but that's how I remember it.Sounds like the cops have tightened up over there.
7/21/2008 12:59:33 PM
is this it? http://youtube.com/watch?v=laUgwMMbh9Ei had never heard of it before and lived in this area my whole life
7/21/2008 1:01:31 PM
dunno where it is, but my first guess would be somewhere along rock quarry road
7/21/2008 1:23:09 PM
^^yeah that's it. the first time I went there it was night, and it was pretty crazy. went probably 5 different times in college, but the cops came and kicked us out the last time I was there. Luckily no tickets or anything. I remember going over railroad tracks and then making a left down a dirt road. I wouldn't recommend going anymore though. Also, there's one out towards pittsboro I think, but some friends got scared off by a man with a shotgun on a four-wheeler who said he owned the land.
7/21/2008 1:27:31 PM
haven't been in at least 8 or 9 years. used to go all the time.
7/21/2008 5:09:52 PM

maayyybeee
7/21/2008 5:20:28 PM
if so...that wasn't too hard to find then. look for the road w/ quarry in the name, and look for something that looks like a water filled quarry...
7/21/2008 5:23:13 PM
I used to drive by there all the time, but I was always drunk so I can't remember what road it's on.
7/21/2008 11:32:15 PM
7/21/2008 11:41:59 PM
I went there a couple of times about 4 years ago, but if I am not mistaken wasn't there 2 separate drowning about 3 years ago. It seems like they started cracking down on it more then (but again not sure if that is where the drownings occurred). Fun place. I could probably drive there from memory, but no way I would remember the street names.
7/21/2008 11:42:13 PM
I was fucked up as a college kid, I'm sorry.
7/21/2008 11:42:21 PM
That's not where NCSU divers do their check-out dives. Those are done in a quarry in Rolesville called Fantasy Lake Scuba Park.

there have been drowning for a long time now. my dad remembers people drowning there when he was a kid.
7/22/2008 1:37:22 AM
it's in Rolesville, off of Quarry road.
7/22/2008 2:26:17 AM
i was out there all the time in high school. the water is clean and the jump is awesome
7/22/2008 9:24:54 AM
How do you get back up once you jump? Is there a trail or do you have to climb?
7/22/2008 10:19:48 AM
YOU LEARN TO BREATHE UNDERWATER
7/22/2008 10:21:07 AM
AWESOME for diving at night ...Although, we had two guys in a tow truck blockade our group of 3 cars, demanding $125 per car to let us off the hook without calling the cops ... We gave them all the cash we had and left (after 90 minutes of daring fun)Its really like 50' at the point where there is a huge X on the rocks where you jump from. Then, you swim to your left where there is a path to get back up to the top.Since we were there at night on our first trip, we had flashlights and went under water to see how deep it was, to make sure we were not jumping into shallow water.
7/22/2008 10:28:58 AM
yeah anyone who went to hs in wake county knows that place, probably half of the ncsu kids too.there was another place we used to go, haw river, there was this rope swing that went out over the river and you could swing out and drop, it was higher than that quarry wall im pretty sure. both neat, haw river was a lot more legal though
7/22/2008 11:44:04 AM
haha probably a lot more disgusting too...i grew up in haw river alamance co for 12 years and was familiar with the smell for about 17
7/22/2008 11:45:27 AM
if im thinking right, this is haw river way further down, past one dam/lake, before maybe jordan lakeit might not even be officially a river there, i just know you park on 64 west of jordan lake and hop inwasnt nastyat least not as a teenager haha
7/22/2008 11:53:22 AM
The Haw River in that area is pretty disgusting. I've heard it is one of the worst polluted rivers in NC. It surprises me since that is upstream of Raleigh.
7/22/2008 12:22:59 PM
We used to go up there during the day in high school. There was this old alcoholic motherfucker always up there with a scooter. He would go to the store and get beer for us and in return we usually got him high.
7/22/2008 12:49:40 PM
There used to be one that had a "beach" where people would go out with their families and beer and go cliff diving. you could rent inner tubes. used to be called "Sugar Lake" but they don't operate it anymore. very redneck.
7/22/2008 1:51:59 PM
There's a quarry just northwest of Durham called the Eno Quarry. It's perfectly legal to swim there since it's on state park land. The water is very clear and deep, and there's a 20-30 ft cliff jump. It's about a 30-45 minutes drive from Raleigh.
7/22/2008 1:56:38 PM
Legal quarry? hmmm
7/22/2008 2:57:53 PM
^^ that's good to know.
7/22/2008 3:04:09 PM
we went to this one in high school. it was also "off limits" but damn that was 8 years ago so i have no idea what the conditions or surveillance are now. i always heard there was a crane at the bottom because it filled up very fast (i imagine that's not too uncommon).View Larger Map[Edited on July 22, 2008 at 3:13 PM. 7/22/2008 3:51:04 PM
was the guy with the scooter white, with dark brown/black hair and named jason? there is a rumor about every quarry ever that you have to watch where you jump b/c you'll land on a crane and that some kid died from being bitten by snakes.
7/22/2008 4:51:41 PM
we used to just jump off of the bridges over jordan lake on 64
7/22/2008 4:56:08 PM
yep, we used to that too. that and sugar lake.
7/22/2008 5:06:52 PM
just travel down poole rd, and you'll run right into it...
7/22/2008 5:13:10 PM
me doing a gainer off the rocks at the wendell quarry
7/22/2008 5:24:30 PM
There was a quarry near where I grew up. It's been filled over. I never went there. I was filled w/ scare stories from my parents, so I have no clue how much fun I missed. Anyone know of one of these near charlotte?
7/22/2008 5:57:20 PM
jackleg, are you thinking of Robeson Creek? There's a rope swing on that creek and it merges into the Haw River which then goes to Jordan Lake. We put our boat in at that ramp and I see the rope swing as we head to Jordan.[Edited on July 22, 2008 at 7:08 PM. Reason : ]

Eno Quarry sounds like a good place to check out since it is technically legal to swim thereKinda concerning that a kid drowned there in the middle of the day for no apparent reason, and he had been swimming there many times before:http://www.newsobserver.com/news/orange/story/633280.htmlMaybe bit by a snake?
