I have an '06 grand prix. Have been noticing abnormal burning/loss/use of oil (have had low oil light come on multiple times). My car is still under warranty, so have been workign with dealership to resolve problem. After bout a month or so of coming in every 500mi to check oil level, it was deemed that in fact my car was using excessive oil.I was just called by dealership, they say after looking into the problem (and workign with GM directly) that the step they are going to take is to replace the PCV valve.I do not trust the dealership nor GM. I do not know much about car repair - could a faulty PCV valve cause excess oil usage (I assume via a leak). I've read up on the PCV system - but have not found a definitive answer on if this could cause my engine oil consumption problem.fyi - oil usage has ranged from losing/burning .5 Q per 1000 miles to 1q in 500 miles. I have 5.3L v8 (6q).thx in advance.

it's amazing that they took so long to come to this conclusion. it's a .25 cent part. they could have just slapped a new one on and called it a day.

if that doesnt work i bet its the piston rings. they were a problem on the LS1

actually it is a known problem that the pcv system doesn't pull enough vacuum in the crankcase on those, it lets the oil go right into the cylinder on the intake stroke, but those engines are gonna drink oil if you wind them up enough, mine loses a quart every 500 miles or so pulling a trailer, but normally loses less than that every 10k miles[Edited on July 18, 2008 at 7:07 AM.
