there were a bunch of vipers at the Grill 57 in Garner tonight...some kind of cruise-in. There were also 5 or so (real) Challengers. Pretty cool

I'd love a turbo snakethe blue one with the 101mm turbo = instaboner
8/16/2008 9:42:40 PM
i really wanted a gts ever since they came out, but all the reviews i ever read said it was meant for people who didn't mind using a sledgehammer to drive in nails.i'm not down with bone jarring rides i'm too old.
8/17/2008 12:03:54 AM
I love using a sledgehammer to drive nails. There ain't no kill like overkill.i've also, in my old age, grown to appreciate nice interiors, at least some refinement, a few features, etc (as opposed to once upon a time when I do believe that I would've daily driven a Caterham Seven as my only transportation)...but I still don't give even half a shit how hard it rides. I do like nice feeling shifters, switches, steering, brakes, etc...nice materials and good design in the interior. I really, really, really hate interior rattles.I don't know that any Viper is ever the best sports car that could be bought for what it costs, but they sure do give me wood. I wouldn't be surprised if one follows me home sooner or later.[Edited on August 17, 2008 at 12:43 AM. Reason : asdfasd]

'99 i was looking at was going for $39K at a the time.. not tooo badand the resell on them is great
8/17/2008 12:49:57 AM
yeah, my next big purchase with either be an early gen II viper or an 09-10 challenger r/t. waiting to see what's up with the drop top version. duke, my jeep is supposed to be going away this week so we can hopefully do the truck then. i'll holla.
8/17/2008 2:14:18 AM
I would love to have that shyte. Makes my SRT look like a shitbox. Oh wait.....

8/17/2008 3:38:26 PM
10 years old or not, that's not a particularly clean condition car to be an exotic with only 20k miles.
8/18/2008 10:41:51 PM
yeah, that's still well out of my price range too. i've seen stock higher mileage early gen II's dipping into the low 30's/high 20's. hell, i saw a super clean gen I with 30k miles go for $22k on viperalley.com a couple of months ago. i'm not willing to put up with the harshness of a gen I though knowing i want to really use the thing. i don't care about a garage queen either. it'll have to be an rt/10 as well. both of those things help the cause a little bit. getting into a built viper is my ultimate goal, but realistically it'll probably be a few more years unless i happen to stumble across some incredible deal and can dump my c5 fast enough to go for it. i want a daily drivable 8 sec. street car, and those "cheap" prices quickly go double or more for anything like that even if you get one already built. i'll always and forever be a mopar fanatic at heart, and i've drooled over these things ever since the concept came out in 89-90 or whenever it was. one day...damn it i want one bad though. especially after encountering a twin 78mm car tonight, what a monster. 800+ hp to the rear wheels on pump gas.
8/18/2008 11:09:45 PM
yeah, i wouldn't require a garage queen, either...but i would expect the price to be SIGNIFICANTLY lower for an example that is in "everyday use" condition, since so many of them are in pristine shape.

8/19/2008 2:16:27 AM
damn.. I had no idea they could be had for closer to 30K. Knowing that makes it a lot more realistic for me.. Maybe not this year or anything but by this time next year I'd like to be seriously shopping/ready to jump on one at that priceI def don't want a garage queen either--I want something I can drive everyday instead of worry about
8/19/2008 1:06:41 PM
What was so harsh about the gen1??I wast thinking i would want an obd1 so i could strip the mopar wiring/computer and it not be a big deal...
8/19/2008 1:10:31 PM
they're just straight up race car.. terrible interiors, terrible ride, a lot of them had no AC, no top, no radio, etcjust a little harsh to be driving a lot
8/19/2008 1:41:54 PM
and there are no obdI gts' that sucks...Mr. ram how does one tune a twin turbo viper w/ obdII
8/19/2008 2:15:03 PM
Why do you think they can't be programmed just because they're OBDII? Vettes are too and there's no problem programming those with the right softwarehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180250863381&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=008first thing I came across. i have no idea on what is best to use on them..but I don't see any reason OBDI is necessary for tuning on this car[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 2:40 PM. Reason : changed the link, that seems to be more what ppl are using]
8/19/2008 2:38:22 PM
Ohh i'm honestly not being a smartass i know diablochip stuff you can tune fords with i'm just wondering what one uses with a viper... i don't know vettes either... what do you vette folk use???its not that you can't do a stand alone with them its that you can't make a stand alone pass obdII inspection with out knowing someone and even then i don't know how to do it.[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 2:45 PM. 8/19/2008 2:43:36 PM
EFI live and there's one other one, can't remember the name of it though[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 2:46 PM. Reason : it'll pass inspection juuust fine ]and i used to think OBDII weren't programmable bc the first car I did any tuning one was a VR4 and at the time the OBDII ones couldn't really be programmed so you had to use a SAFC.. that's more of what I was getting at[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 2:48 PM. 8/19/2008 2:46:13 PM
I know subies you can "hack" right into their computer with a couple different software packages and neatly delete codes etc. but i don't know who does that for vettes/vipers... and i despise piggyback units just cause they can do more harm then good on certain occasions
8/19/2008 2:59:14 PM
yeah, it's pretty common on vettes i know.. not sure about vipers since i never owned one so i never really did a whole lot of reading about themgr i want a fast car again
8/19/2008 3:33:07 PM
obdII is a non issue for anything these days. "hacking" directly into the computer has been going on for a decade now in the gm world. for professional/serious tuning there's lt1edit, ls1edit, efi live, hp tuners, etc... then you've got all your basic hand held stuff too. i've got ls1edit just for screwing around with basic shit on my car like bcm features, fan speed, datalogging, etc. but it's an ancient program compared to other stuff and sucks ass mostly. i would never bother to really try and tune the car with it.no one has really cracked mopar's controllers. most people are using a very sophisticated piggyback like the jec2 from roe or a conventional stand alone like the aem.
