I'm thinking of buying this purse my wife's birthday. She was interested in it when we visited Vegas last weekend. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with them and their thoughts or comments?

lol

i care very little about fashion

but... this looks horrible

chicks care about bags and shoes and I don't think any reasonable chick is going to really want a $30 transformer bag

well, if it caught her interest i'd say go for it

any smaller gifts you can get to go with it, so you don't have all your eggs in one basket??????

it's not even that- it's a $30 purse, then you've got to buy the $20 shell, or others if you want different colors. plus, wouldn't the magnets be an issue for credit cars or cell phones? they've got to be strong enough to hold on there so they don't come off when they get bumped or something, as they will when you put them in the car, are shopping at the mall, etc. then again, i'm a bit of a purse snob so this would be epic fail for me because it seems entirely impractical.

i vote no, but if she showed interest in it, then you might get brownie points for actually paying attention to her

before buying this, look at the other purses she has already bought herself.

i say this because i tend to stick to 2 or 3 certain styles of purses that i really like and tend not to buy other styles

to me this purse would be a pain in the butt because you can only hold it by the handle. i really like a purse with straps just long enough so that the purse sits beneath my elbow while it is on my shoulder. if i want a purse i have to carry around in my hand i'd rather it just be a small clutch and not have a handle at all. but that is my style and what i'm comfortable with. looking at her collection of bags will give you an idea of any quirks like this that she may have.

also i hate bags that are "hard" and have a rigid shape to them.... again this is my preference. look at her bags and see if she has other boxy bags or bags made of rigid materials.

good luck.

^doesnt any bag pretty much hang down to your waist? I mean you are like 3 feet tall. Lets be real here.

I think this seems like a very silly product. Maybe if the shells didn't cost as much as an entire handbag, or there were different size possibilities. Plus most of the shell designs are pretty meh, nothing noteworthy, lots of faux features.

rather than getting her a decent-priced bag that changes, get her a more expensive but classic bag that will never go out of style.

I suggest kate spade: http://www.katespade.com

there's a pretty decent sale right now too - the nylon "sam" is on sale for $109

$30 bucks isn't bad. I was expecting them to cost a couple hundred even though they look like something you could buy in Chinatown

wtf, you have to pay extra money for the shell? What a stupid idea for a purse

Ya I have to agree on the magnet issue. I worried that it would cause problems to her cell phone and even her credit cards. That's why i was curious if anyone had experience with one.

Also the one we looked at was at the mall and it was packaged deal for $79 for a bag and 3 shells and a long shoulder strap.

After reading the posts I think I might do some more research first and be a bit wary before buying it. Thanks for the comments.

She already has too many purses including Kate Spade, Coach, and others. Why she needs a new purses and shoes, I will never understand. I have had my wallet for years and I only changes shoes when the soles wear out.

^ Mythbusters tried messing up credit cards with magnets, it didn't work. I don't know about cell phones, though...

I actually think they look kinda interesting. This way- you don't have to move everything from the purse when you want to change colors. I do think the shells are expensive, though. And the magnets affecting cell phones/credit cards is definitely something to think about.

If she was really interested in it-- then get her one. Be glad she didn't pick out a new Coach bag!!
And the idea of getting a few things to go along with it/put in it is also nice.
mcangel's right about the kudos for paying attn :-P

it's a neat idea, but the bag itself looks too small. I like to have purses large enough to hold a notebook or two so i don't have to carry both a purse and a schoolbag. but i'm guessing she's out of school now..soooooo unless she typically prefers larger purses...go for it?

Ya after you get married and dated for awhile you run out of ideas for gifts. So you really have to pay attention to the small stuff every now and then. Otherwise your stuck getting expensive, shiny gifts. :-(

She likes all kind of purses but luckily she doesn't expensive taste. She would be happy to get one she likes from Kohl's or other budget shopping places. Granted she wouldn't turn down a Coach bag but she did turn down a Louis Vuitton (Googled the spelling).

I might just get it for her and then if she doesn't like it then I can sell them on eBay or Craigslist or maybe give it to my sister for a try. I'll post her comments after I get it and she tries it out. The problem I have is which "shells" will she like.

Exactly. the gift isnt the dumb $30 purse, its the fact you remembered it and got it. fucking noobs.

If she doesn't actually want it or like it, return it.

I sent a PM but I thought I'd post my response here too in case somebody was thinking about buying or wanted a review

Quote :
"I bought one of these a few months ago after seeing a million commercials for it on tv

The bag w/ I believe 3 or 4 shells was $100.

At first it was great. Only having to change the shell when I wanted to match the bag to my outfit was great.

The magnets ARE NOT very strong. If you turn the wrong way while holding the purse, the shell will just fall off and be hanging from one side of the purse. You have no idea how many times I was in the mall or grocery store and had somebody tell me my purse was falling apart.

The other problem with the bag is that the new shells they release are almost always sold out. I would have given the purse a second chance b/c there were some cute shells they had come out with. But they were always sold out and finally I just said screw it.

It actually looks like a very old lady purse. I'm a purse fanatic and totally thought this would be the "last purse I'd never need".

It is a nice thought and if your wife saw it in person and liked it, thats great. Had I seen it in person, I would never have bought it. "

Yeah- I don't do that either. I just know it's important for some people, especially those who have a lot of purses. I like my one fossil outlet purse just fine

Screw purses. I have so much crap (bike tools, water bottle, extra clothing, etc.) that I got a Chrome messenger bag.
Even my dog fits in it.

My future mother-in-law had one tonight when we went to dinner. I'm a self-admitted purse snob, but this one wasn't that bad. It's actually quite cute and very practical. I say if she wants it, go for it. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than a Gucci or Louis Vuitton!

gave the wife that as a random gift tonight (although i think my official stance is that it's an early xmas gift) and she was pretty ecstatic
