I'm going to be moving into a house soon, so dishes are now an option. I was wondering what TWW's experiences were with HD/HD-DVR with TWC, DishHD, and DirectTV. I noticed that DishHD allows you to add your own HDD to your box for a $40 service fee, which sounds interesting.

you can add external HDs to TWC and DTV boxes for free via eSATA.

Does anyone have extensive experience with two of them that can compare services? Suprisingly enough, google could not help me with this question.Does adding your own hdd void your warranty with the other carriers?[Edited on July 9, 2008 at 10:39 PM. Reason : d]

ok heres another question. between dish and directv, which one makes it easier to get the files from the hd dvr, to an external i already have with eSATA, and then to my pc where i can do whatever i want with themim assuming they have some drm on them that makes it not just plug it in and im ready to go, but maybe they don't

I just called and ordered my NFL Sunday ticket.I got Sunday Ticket + Superfan = $249That gets me all the games, and the preseason, and some other player tracking shit, all in HD.If you're getting the ticket, make sure you realize that it wont be HD games unless you score the superfan add-on.[Edited on July 11, 2008 at 4:44 PM. Reason : i cant wait. my 50" plasma is begging for some football. ]

How did you manage that? Its supposed to be 350$

^^^ anyone want to answer that guys question?

DirecTV DVRs use a proprietary filesystem AND they protect the content. It's easier to connect it to a TV tuner in your PC and record it that way than it is to access the data on the HD.

I'm going to suggest going with the broadband internet only option. Between Hulu and Netflix I get all the entertainment/movies I need without having to limit myself to what's scheduled. Sure I don't have access to two of the major networks current shows and I have to wait an extra week for some of the new ones, but the vast catalogue of movies and tv series means I'm almost never without something really good to watch. This is what I ended up settling on when I just couldn't stand the damn SA8300HDC DVR from TimeWarner breaking on me every few days. I went through 5 of them in 3 months; I would have gone through 4 times as many if I could have swapped them out any faster.
