I don't really care about the Clippers, but that was a dirtbag move Elton. I know you can contend for a playoff series now with a good young team, but man...Now the Clippers will continue to be the Clippers. The big loser here is Baron Davis

its the NBA99% of the guys are playing for themselves, as they should
7/9/2008 10:35:04 AM
Too bad we don't have a thread for this type of talk.
7/9/2008 10:36:31 AM
oh snap
7/9/2008 10:37:34 AM
he goes to dook, what do you expect?
7/9/2008 11:45:50 AM
players play for themselves, but fans continue to go to games
7/9/2008 11:52:01 AM
remember how Boozer totally screwed the Cavs?
7/9/2008 11:52:36 AM
yeah, but that is history, now he's a hero kind of like when bret came back the second time, everyone hated him but soon that was history tooa lot of players do things that seem like image tarnishing but it depends on how things work out in the end but my question is, whats a clipper?
7/9/2008 11:59:46 AM
A ship you idiot.
7/9/2008 12:32:29 PM
7/9/2008 12:37:06 PM
everybody here would have done the same thing for that kind of money
7/9/2008 12:45:05 PM
What Brand did was not as bad as what Boozer did.The Clippers didn't offer Brand as much as the 76ers did, because of their owner. They were lowballing him and got what was coming. Boozer just bailed on a team that wanted to reward him.

He is really past his prime anyways, good for him to become the new Sam Cassell.
7/9/2008 1:11:14 PM
not to mention baron was quoted as saying that Elton has to do what he has to do
7/9/2008 2:22:23 PM
the Clippers would have sucked either way.. Maggette left too, and their are way too many good teams in the West. they would have struggled to make the playoffs next year even if he had stayed. and no one here would turn down that kind of cash.and
7/9/2008 2:39:06 PM
remember when Kevin Garnett sold out the Wolves and Ray Allen sold out the Sonics (after selling out the Bucks)
7/9/2008 3:53:50 PM
i love how the 2 times i recall this happening, its involved former dook players
7/9/2008 8:56:57 PM
word is clippers are shootin for okaformeaningthey'll continue to be the clippers Gordon, Davis, Thorton, Brand and Kaman wouldnt have been bad though
7/9/2008 9:02:52 PM
he's going to the Eastthe West is stacked...much better chance at winning in the East
7/9/2008 9:29:44 PM
the clippers are known for losing franchise players frequently.plus it's the nba which is dying at a rapid rate...sketchy refs, sketchy/greedy players, david hitler stern running the league, etc, etc.the clippers have been god awful for a while and i think any decent player who can go to a more competitive team would jump ship...you're always second to the lakers in LA anyway.this IS the nba though...this happens daily...
7/9/2008 10:04:07 PM
here is probably what happened. elton and baron are friends. they ran a con on the clippers to convince them to sign baron to a max deal which he would not have gotten from anybody else. once that deal was in place elton did what he probably was going to do all along and left for the east coast for the big dollar bucks. they both end up with very good contracts. if brand had really fucked baron over by leaving, baron would have made more of a fuss with the brand signing.
7/10/2008 9:38:20 AM
Can the Clippers just be kicked out of the league?
7/10/2008 11:22:58 AM
^^baron didn't get close to a max deal
7/10/2008 11:24:49 AM
^^^ Worst theory ever.I doubt Baron really cares much. He went to HS in LA, college in LA, has businesses in LA, and chills with J. Alba and her husband in LA. He is partners with her husband in some company. He is 15 minutes from Hollywood.
7/10/2008 11:53:47 AM
it was reported that baron was recruited heavily by brand to be a clipper and play with him, then brand bolteddidnt mean max.. shoulve said more than anyone else was willing to give him[Edited on July 10, 2008 at 12:13 PM. Reason : .]
7/10/2008 12:12:25 PM
He left $17,000,000 on the table by opting out to be a Clipper
7/10/2008 12:16:01 PM
for one year, not for 5. he would not have gotten a contract averaging 17mil over five anywhere
7/10/2008 12:26:00 PM
Dunleavy not too happy about Brand leaving:http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3483045

Ehhh, I was talking about Baron there, man
7/11/2008 3:13:55 PM
if you're as talented a player as Brand, why the fuck would you spend more than 6 or 7 years with the Clippers when you've already given them some of the best years of your career and you haven't gotten shit from it? Plus they play in the west. Ask Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett if its easier to win in the East or the West
