post your computer blunder, hahahahah, im laughing already in anticipation

ok i just had one so stupid i had to laugh

im installing xp on a clients pc, but his cd rom doesnt work, so i use the network to install it, but all the xp copies i have dont work, so i decide to download a new one
i do and put it on an external drive that i store everthing on and plug that to the laptop and install
but the XP i downloaded is in danish
but i figure i can change the language later so i continue with the installation
so the installation starts with the normal questions except its in danish
i remeber what they are in english and it looks the same so i guess the buttons and set it to format the hard drive and install a fresh xp

later when its finished i restart the pc but when it comes up its the same xp, not the new one
puzzled i go to download another copy of xp, english this time
i take my external back, hook it up to the pc and open it

when i do the hundreds of folders i used to have are gone and all i see is one folder
and it says "windows"

ok now complain about how you want your 5 minutes back

Carpet+sound card
Carpet+mobo
Carpet+hard drive
etc

Also, I hot swapped keyboards one time and bricked a motherboard.

haha, i'm glad i have all hardwood floors, but i have to be extra careful about static as well as i have a long-haired dog and live in a climate of ~15% relative humidity... static is horrible in the winter.

i think the worst thing i've done is snapped a sata connection off the back of a hard drive.

Assumed it couldn't possibly be the 1.5 year old processor that died.

After buying a non-refundable mobo-- oh, wait.

^ I would just take that as an excuse to demo a 64bit OS.

Left my computer plugged in when I put in a new ethernet card. Went to pull off the little metal cover they put over the PCI slots and dropped it onto the motherboard. Made a pretty good spark and a loud pop. Pulled it out of there quickly, unplugged the computer, finished installing the card. The cover had a significant burn mark where the spark occurred. Prayed a little bit, turned the computer on. Everything worked fine. (And has continued to work for the last 4 years.)

Same here, but if you work on carpet long enough, it will eventually catch up with you. The handful of things I bricked is actually pretty good considering.

I put a floppy disc into a zip drive one time in a computer lab on campus.

In highschool, I was installing a heatsink on an old AMD athlon processor and I thought I secured the latch, so when I turned the computer upright, the heat sink falls down hitting the back of the graphics card. I heard a clunk and was like "OH SHIT". But everything worked fine. I was more afraid of cracking the CPU as it was pretty common with the old AMD and heatsinks.

When I built my first computer, I screwed the motherboard directly to the tray instead of using standoffs.

That bitch is still working to this day.
