I just want a laptop shell on which I can install my own OS (in this case Linux or Windows XP). I thought TigerDirect.com was the place to go.

You can't purchase Dells from their website with no operating system installed.I'm sure it's politics.

^yep, its not even a corporate account. I got my system integrator status like 8 years ago, just make a call, tell em what you want, get a quote, done

Btw, the Member Purchase Program that Dell pushes at NCSU is only worth 12% at the highest level:http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/programoffer?c=us&cs=2236&l=en&s=eepOr more directly: http://i.dell.com/images/us/segments/eep/program_offer_grid.gifBut hey, every bit counts, I guess.

gen-x-pc.com has "no OS" as standard on their laptopsi can't guarentee the quality of their service, i've never ordered from them before, but i know they keep it as an option.others (cyberpowerpc, ibuypower) might have the same option, I don't know. but those two in particular aren't known for quality devices
