for the weekend of the 18th-20th. I could probably use Ivan's but I'd prefer a single car trailer. Anyone have one I can borrow or know someone's that I could borrow?

on that note, i got to see a hydrofoil race on lake pickwick on friday, twin V-8s vs. twin turbines, over a two mile course, it made a .26 second difference at over 160 mph

there is some cool shit that goes on out here in the boonies

what would be a really good price for this trailer (like, where you KNOW you could get your money back out of it or flip it for a profit).

how much weight can I realistically expect to haul with it? I know it has a 3500 lb axle...I have no idea how much a trailer like that weighs and how much you can safely push the weight limit on the axle.

most axles, if it's a good one like a dexter are fine pusing a couple hundred or so past that rating as long as the wheels/tires are good. just make sure you distrubute the load correctly for the right amount of tongue weight. i've had my dexter axled trailer close to 18k a couple of times no problem. your main concern should just be the vehicle being up to the task and/or if it needs trailer brakes (i know yours doesn't).

no way i'd use that for a car though if that's why you're asking....

word. fyi, towing doubles is legal is a lot of states. the first trailer has to be a gooseneck/5th wheel though.

yeah, don't want to have to buy a 5th wheel hitch, don't want to deal with the hassle of towing doubles for 3000 miles, don't want to have to buy 2 trailers, and I'm sure I'd pass through a state somewhere along the way where it's illegal!

Well, this would definitely haul my shit.

I assume that it has brakes and lights, but I emailed the guy to find out for sure. My concern is that, with the axles so far towards the back, it might be tough to keep the tongue weight within limits.

ah ha, here we go. working brakes and lights, good tires. it's kinda far away, but I'm getting on short time, here.

$1400 is prob a pretty good price, I think...I'll probably offer $1000 or $1100, though. hopefully pick it up tomorrow or saturday.

hmm, he says he won't go below $1300. i guess that isn't a bad price, although i don't know that i'll be able to flip it for a profit or even easily break even selling it in NC.

i might try to push him to $1200, but ultimately, i'll probably pay $1300 unless something comes available tomorrow. i'm running out of time to nickel and dime the purchases for my move (paying $270 to pick up a weight-distributing hitch tomorrow, and another $200 or a little more for a trailer brake controller and installation. i have to install the track bar, change the oil, etc this weekend, and i don't really know dick about brake controllers, so i'm gonna just pay the shop for 1.5-2 hours of labor to install it for me rather than floundering around trying to figure it out and wasting a bunch of time (the truck isn't pre-wired for it).

Ill tell Kenny that you want to take his place Ivan. We could market you as the near amputee who overcame his downfall to become the NASCAR driver of the century. The man who stole Kenny Wallace's seat. Money in the bank.

No angle grinding this week...but I did find out that a F-350 hauling a 32 foot Gooseneck can go 115 MPH through the Illinois plains. Ah...the joys of government plates.

^haha, you be sure to tell him. i've already told jeff and ward burton that in person.

i found out a jeep liberty can do the same speeds across that area, but the cops don't like it once you get over to nebraska.

^^^^man, angle grinders will attack for no good reason... i've seen it happen.

[Edited on July 18, 2008 at 9:27 PM. Reason : or, they could just let me drive the trucks between tracks... either way]

we dont have much problem with the cops. The Border Patrol trailers and government plates help out alot with that. We actually had a cop running about 90mph with us for a good bit through Indiana.

If you are serious about driving trucks....we need a few good drivers. The roads are too long for the four of us to drive four trucks all over the country efficiently. You would need to move to Charlotte though, lol.

^^i dunno, it fell off.

the seats shouldn't be a big deal. just some simple brackets to go from the tracks on the new seats to the studs on the floor... i think i've got an old bed frame we can cut up that'd work nicely.

^pshhh, it might be my zj in the other spot...
