i think thats another reason he is such a great politician...hes not thickheaded and he is willing to compromisehttp://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/02/us/politics/02fisa.html

More like, Obamas ability to panderIt's just another of several issues that he has changed his position on since securing the nomination. By my count, he's changed his stance on NAFTA, gun control, the death penalty, campaign finance, FISA, and town-hall debates all in the past month. I don't think you should celebrate the fact that he has altered his message so transparently in preparation for the general election.
7/5/2008 8:23:52 PM
NAFTA- i'm pretty sure we are not gonna get rid of this thing...i'm guessing we might tweak it some but thats about it...dont know what his position is really, dont really caregun control- this is one of those things i could care less about, cause it doesnt affect me...dont care to know his stance cause i dont really care about the issuethe death penalty- death penalty is kinda like abortion for me...if it were illegal it wouldnt affect me, if it were legal it wouldnt affect me...dont really know what his stance iscampaign finance- dont care about campaign finance...just seems like one of those things that people talk about but doesnt really matter in the long scheme of thingsFISA- doesnt affect me so i could care less what position he supportstown-hall debates- lol yeah i pick my presidents based on doing town hall debates
7/5/2008 8:34:53 PM
But Prawn Star - selling us up the creek on FISA, civil liberties, and the like just shows how good he is at compromising! Compromising any kind of integrity he has, for instance. Or just folding like a lawn chair. You decide.

because the thread is about obamas ability to compromise?this is perpetual holmes, definitely not a one topic threadagain, thanks for trying]
7/5/2008 9:06:12 PM
obamas ability to compromise? are you serious? he has the most liberal voting record in the senate and you say that he will compromise? if anything mccain is the one who has a history of compromising.
7/5/2008 11:29:21 PM
well as someone said the other day...its kinda funny that mccain is trying to sure up the republican base while obama is moving toward the centercause americans are definitely not center...
7/5/2008 11:41:19 PM
ok that means absolutely nothingobama: most liberal voting record in the senate != ability to compromise
7/5/2008 11:42:34 PM
Does anyone actually believe that Obama is "moving toward the center"? The initial awe associated with Obama's personality seems to be coming to an end, and he's appearing as a weaker candidate, at least from my perspective. I'm starting to have my own doubts about Obama being a shoe-in come November.

the only thing Obama will compromise is his word.

and the constitution.
7/7/2008 9:52:03 PM
^^^ But McCain didn't even vote enough in 07 to be rated:
7/7/2008 10:00:49 PM
LOL, moron. What has obama done.. really?I know he talks about being a centrist.. but has he ONCE broke from his party and voted with the repubs? Once? You know mccain has. He is horrible, but if you are looking for someone who has actually done something and worked with and broke from his own party, then you would have to give mccain the nod.. which wont happen. Even if he could shit crude.
7/7/2008 10:07:42 PM
7/7/2008 10:10:10 PM
yes he did. You can proudly say that obama voted enough to be rated by this magazine. And after all, isnt that enough.
7/7/2008 10:17:09 PM
I think wanting to compromise is a terrible trait in any individual. However, I still haven't decided who I'm voting for.
7/7/2008 10:18:54 PM
I think compromising in some situations is a good thing. However, talking about being able to compromise and doing it are two different things.
7/7/2008 10:32:45 PM
^ Obama has a good history of compromising when he worked in the illinois legislature: http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/06/25/obamas-state-senate-years-show-bipartisan-record/He hadn't worked long enough in the national senate to really determine a clear trend. It's pure ignorance or delusion to pretend that Obama has no record of compromise.

"Pandering" is more changing your opinion based on who you are talking to than strictly changing your opinion. When you change your mind based on data and what you feel may be best for others, thats just a straight "change" or "compromise".A better example of "pandering" is opposing Affirmative Action nationwide as a whole, but supporting it in your home state because it is popular. Its a good thing I just made that up, because anyone actually trying to do that might be the biggest panderer since Kerry.

^are you serious monky? I cant imagine what McCain must have been doing since April.
8/5/2008 8:58:55 AM
moving to the right while obama moves to the center?
8/5/2008 9:02:22 AM
Are you serious? Are you that drunk with partisan hackery that you would question Skank on that post? Give me a break. You don't act holier than thou about calling people back from vacation to vote on some some bullshitWHEN YOU COULDN'T EVEN MAKE THE VOTE ON A KEY PIECE OF YOUR VOTE GETTING PANDERING.WHAT WAS HE DOING SINCE APRIL? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
8/5/2008 9:03:45 AM
8/5/2008 10:45:38 AM
That doesn't address any of McCains hypocrisy. Them going on vacation is a completely different matter. McCain doesn't have a cain to stand on for this issue.
8/5/2008 10:49:01 AM
8/5/2008 11:16:30 AM
what is the hypocrisy? He is running for president. Did any of his plans fail by one vote trole?Them going on vacation while they blocked a vote then didnt allow the minority to speak is the issue. THem going on vacation doesnt get us anywhere closer to energy independence. He has every right to call them on their bullshit, and bush should force them back in. Call pelosi on this bs.

^exactly, it clearly demonstrates just how myopic and selfish the dems thinking is. If it wont help us for ten years.. then it wont help MY ASS in nov. is thier line. That is why they would rather send out some more checks.Jessie, you are seeing obama move towards the center bc he needs to to get elected. Its what usually happens during both campaigns. Traditionally we are a center right country, with the parties usually being on the extremes. So they have to say one line while running for the nomination, then another in the general. The real bitch of it is figuring out what they really want to do. In obama's case I think his views are vastly more left than he is now trying to portray, so if that is your thing, i wouldnt worry.

Jimmy would've made solar power cars that ran just as efficiently as combustion engines, since thats possible and all
8/5/2008 1:12:16 PM
Jimmy had some good foresight, but he fell into the same trap that Obama is falling into now: demonizing the oil companies and using anti-market initiatives to try to solve the problem. Studies have shown that the price caps and windfall profits taxes of the late 70's only created more supply problems, compounding the crisis. But hell, lets try that shit again, right Obama!?!
