I've been wanting to take a trip to DC but wanted to avoid the mad house of July 4th so i'm going the next weekend. I haven't been in probably 6 years and i'm sure alot has changed so I just need some input from you guys that live there.

Hotel accomations? I think last time we stayed in Manasses and took the metro from some station way outside of town into DC and basically just walked around or took the train wherever we were going. Would like to avoid DC traffic if possible but if it's not bad no the weekend it wouldn't be a big deal. Where are nicer areas that are decently priced? less than 100 dollars/night preferably.

Baseball? I wanted to see a game since I never get to see any MLB in NC. Whats the cheapest way to get a ticket or park?

Anything besides monuments and museums that I just can't miss? I think I can see just about all the monuments and stuff in about a day or two.
