ok, so i have a mazda3, 2006. i was driving down 40 today with the AC on, then all of a sudden I notice that its not cold anymore. I turn it off, then turn it on, and it makes a funky noise. wait till i get home, then try it when im idling in the driveway..it cut the car off. Turned the car back on, tried again, made a funky noise...also, i could hear like metal clinking or somehting...is my compressor dead? is it maybe the belt?anyone wanna make some money to fix it?
6/27/2008 3:32:45 PM
ummm...warranty?
6/27/2008 3:52:11 PM
did the belt fly off
6/27/2008 4:02:27 PM
either the belt broke (cross your fingers this is the case)or the clutch connected to your compressor pulley could have broken - could be expensive to fix
6/27/2008 6:33:02 PM
should have bought a toyota
6/28/2008 9:04:00 AM
i dont see there being any real noises with a broken belt..
6/28/2008 9:31:35 AM
yeah, the belt breaking doesnt make any clunking noises.unless of course its more than just a broken belt
6/28/2008 11:38:16 AM
yes, need more description on "funky noise"and pressure readings would be super awesome
6/28/2008 12:17:23 PM
shitty, good luck with fixing it.
6/28/2008 2:29:11 PM
damn that sucks man
6/28/2008 5:31:12 PM
well, im at mazda, and NO, its not under warranty, i drive far to work...sucks.so, im paying 91 bucks to get it looked at..and im fearing bad news.i seriously doubt its a belt, from the noise im hearing.
6/30/2008 9:00:56 AM
For some reason I feel like it might be the compressor...
6/30/2008 9:08:10 AM
if the comp. locked up it would be a miracle for the belt to stay on without melting the bitch off
6/30/2008 10:22:30 AM
I just paid about $500 for a new compressor in my 2003 Accord.
6/30/2008 10:38:13 AM
i am about to fucking crythey are on crack at the mazda dealership.....they are claiming that i need to replace the compressor, pully, belt, and recharge...this car is a fucking 06! how is this fucking possible, im about to have a fit
6/30/2008 10:48:57 AM
6/30/2008 10:53:50 AM
lol, i wasnt acutally going to get it FIXED at the dealership...just had it looked at there, its near my work. i definitely realize that the dealership is not the place for this.if anyone wants to take on a little job, im going to order a used compressor/pulley, and ill pay good for labor if anyone has the skills to install it.PM me please!!![Edited on June 30, 2008 at 11:03 AM. 6/30/2008 11:03:31 AM
I have your answer my friend...ehh umm....YOU BOUGHT A MAZDA!!! WHAT DID YOU EXPECT!!!But seriously, that is kinda wack since it's an 06
6/30/2008 3:37:58 PM
mmm used comp. and pulley. is it a metal pulley with plastic bearing races. i know its a cheap(er) fix but if you put it on and it locks up again its gonna be hell fo you. good luck and let us know.
6/30/2008 10:21:50 PM
thats wierd, an 06 should not have this problem.is it out of warranty due to mileage?im guessing that is the case since its like 2 years old. hell, write a note to mazda corp. and explain the deal.i did that with canon and got my camera replaced for free after it was out of warranty.. different type of product, but it wont hurt if you have some time. or go talk to the GM of mazda.its a 2 year old car, it doesnt matter the brand, 2 years old should not mess up that bad.
7/1/2008 1:31:46 PM
^ I agree
7/1/2008 2:54:37 PM
^^ Great idea. It definitely couldn't hurt at all. Be all nice and tell them that you really like Mazda and everything else about your car, you're a loyal customer, recommended them to others, yada, yada, yada. And see what they tell you. If that doesn't get you anywhere, you can try the hardball approach about calling the trouble shooter, bad mouthing them to friends & family, etc..
7/1/2008 4:17:33 PM
i'd take it to Brantley's on Capital blvd.
7/1/2008 9:16:09 PM
^ does he have another location in nightdale?
7/1/2008 11:41:15 PM
hotcurlz24's POS focus (2002 >80k) had this exact same thing happen last summer. The exxon next to the falls of the neuse liquor store replaced the ac compressor pretty cheap. I bought one at Jackson's auto salvage on Poole Rd and took it up there and they put it on same day.]
7/3/2008 12:07:17 PM
maybe i should write them a letter....after all, we do have fucking 4 mazdas currently in my family..we are pretty loyal..02-04-06-08..lol.if i can get this fixed for relatively cheap..then i wont even bother with mazda..by the way..the car is out of warranty because my milage is 74000...i have to drive 100 miles a day, on the highway..it SUCKS.and you are RIGHT..this shit doesnt happen to a fuckin new car..i bought a new car so i wouldnt have to worry about stuff like this.
7/8/2008 11:05:10 PM
^ 100 miles a day
7/9/2008 8:40:39 AM
yep..most days..and THIS IS THE GREAT REPLY I GOT FROM my letter to mazda corp..
7/9/2008 7:52:08 PM
so whats the mileage warrany on your car? 60K??i still find a 2 year old car kind of odd, doesnt matter the mileage. heck you only use the compressor during like 3-4 months a year if that. so perhaps you should go talk to the district manager.on a similar note, i took my grandmas 04 lexus RX in for a check engine light. its only got 39K miles. even the tech who checked and cleared the lights said that its unusual for a car with that many miles to have the codes it had. anyways, the warranty expires in 2 months, and the service manager said that since they have record of the problems BEFORE the warranty expires, that if i come in after with the same problem, lexus is usually good about dealing with it even though warranty has expired.you'd think its a trap, once the warranty is out, all this crap starts happening. it happens more than often, thats why i like to grill a dealership whenever possible. i really hope you can get something out of mazda with this. this just doesnt seem right. yeah you're out of warranty with miles, but its not like you have 200,000 miles on the car. and if you did, you should still get some sort of plaque for it.
7/9/2008 7:59:52 PM
^10/10 sir
7/9/2008 8:09:01 PM
i dont know, i mean, im a high mileage guy myself. i think anything less than 100,000 is still a virgin. specially less than like 80K miles.yeah, its kind of high for 2 years of driving, but mazda is a fairly reputable manuf. at least in my eyes. some may disagree and say that 74K miles is a lot in 2 years. yeah... but still.
7/9/2008 8:16:09 PM
yeah but only like what, 10 months of that hes had to use the ac?
7/10/2008 6:27:17 PM
the compressor in my civic is just now screwing up. 11 years old 200thousand plus miles.
7/10/2008 8:14:03 PM
mine started acting up in a 97 dakota. Took it to a shop down the road and they were like "blah blah blah....couple hundred dollars...blah blah blah." Went to advance, bought a new orifice tube, put it in and it works like a charm.
7/10/2008 9:29:47 PM
well the ac can also depend on driving conditions. if your a high rpm driver the clutch an fuck up. i see 200k+ mile cars all the time that are like "well shes not as cool as she used to be"from r12 users at that
7/13/2008 2:46:05 AM
I think you should pitch a fit to Mazda until you get some kind of compensation. That should not be happening. I would definitely make a point to inform them how many mazdas your family owns.
7/13/2008 9:53:49 AM
Since this is a mazda related question...1993 mazda mx3.The AC Compressor went out. SS Mazda wants over $500 for just the compressor, about $730 for everything.
7/22/2008 3:28:10 PM
are you going to put an R-12 compressor back on the mazda or are you going to convert it to R-134athat could be where a lot of your cost is...the refill of R-12 or the cost of conversion
7/22/2008 7:07:00 PM
^ you dont know what the fuck you are talking about do you?four brothers auto air on gresham lake rd in raleigh, take it there, pay the money, get it done right the first time. if it fucks up- its warrantied. if you wanna put the compressor on, forget any warranty from anyone.
7/22/2008 8:56:05 PM
i was talking about shmorri2's 93 mx3
7/22/2008 9:06:54 PM
and i was talking about you motherfucker!
7/22/2008 9:20:32 PM
wat?
7/22/2008 9:26:02 PM
once you have the compressor off a car, its about $11 more then you can refill with 134. so you are an idiot.
7/22/2008 9:32:45 PM
7/22/2008 9:41:57 PM
wow. Didn't mean to bring the drama.... The car is already been converted to 134a. The only issues would be that the condensor is in piss poor shape, but still works. Between that and the old ass evaporator core/heater core, I don't know if I want to actually go thru with this. Best quote I got was like ~$600 to get the compressor done (includes 12 month warranty). Thanks optmusprimer for the four brothers auto air on gresham lake rd in raleigh suggestion. I'll give them a call.I've never done any AC work evar, so I don't know exactly how to go about "charging" the system. Also, what about the oil and dye? I have to add those into the system too right? Is the compressor a simple bolt on thing? I've tried googling already for help, but there's no where the info on an mx3 as there is on my car, so this completely sucks. 7/24/2008 11:56:03 AM
i need someone who knows how to install an ac compressor...ill pay you..fucking PM me
7/31/2008 4:11:19 PM
do not fucking let him touch your car.other than that.. somebody will volunteer i'm sure
7/31/2008 4:13:14 PM
he wont..hes apparently not trying to do the work..or just hasnt logged on it half a month.he was the one who contacted me offering to do the work and claiming he had the tools and the knowledge. He told me to order the part...now i have the part and he is nowhere to be found.im hoping someone will offer their services..i know there are quite a few knowledgable car people on here! its a quick job..for decent money..at least $175...for like 2 hours of work..
