I just got my first one and it is the shit. The e-mail came to my blackberry as a .wav attachment (they have always had that feature) it also had the message transcribed to text. One click on my phone to play it.

I really like the iPhones visual voicemail.

Does the iphone transcribe the voice message to text? If not, it is inferior.]

The number you ****'d out in the message is up in the From: header. Just making sure you saw that

Does anyone know of a 3rd party voicemail provider that has a service like this? Vonage is .25 message after the first 10. Typical bad business move on their part. I would probably pay an extra $15 a month flat for it but they are only offering it on a per message basis which I will not use.

if you google 'voicemail transcription' there are other providers. someone I know was considering starting a service doing this. I'm surprised they can transcribe with just computer programs considering how crappy the quality is on a lot of voicemails i receive.

That's pretty awesome..

I would love to see what a drunk dial would come up as. In all seriousness though this would really save time for anyone who gets a gazillion messages a day. It would also allow people to return messages in the car without having to write a bunch of shit down to refer back to. I am amazed that apple is the only company to see how much potential this feature has across cellular handsets. As a real estate agent I can tell you I would probably pay up to $25 a month for this feature if it worked on my cell phone. It would be well worth it to me.]

What are you talking about apple? Apple's visual voicemail just shows a name and message length and you can touch the message and it plays... so unless i'm missing something they aren't comparable[Edited on June 25, 2008 at 7:14 PM. Reason : although i do love the way the iphones do it..very effective ]

^isn't that all you need to know? Who called and left a message...and which ones you want to waste time listening to? Honestly if I wanted to read the message I'd request a txt message.

Yea but the problem is someone has already left you a voicemail message. I generally despise voicemail messages especially from people who ramble on and on. Maybe I'll change my voicemail greeting to say "hello, my voicemail is broken so please email me"

I do not really have the option of taking my voice mail off or discouraging people from leaving messages. I try to condition co-workers to do everything by e-mail (it is actually a faster response since I have a blackberry) but even some of them do not catch on.
