So I just got a free(they were throwing it away) Neslab RTE-100 chiller/recirculator with a water bath. The thing chills a resevoir of water to as low as -15 degrees celsius and pumps at 3 gallons/min.If I were going to sell this thing how much could I get for it/where would I sell it?... If my computer components were disposable to me I would watercool them but running water through my computer (or nonconducting coolant) scares me a tad (I've watercooled before though... just to test it out). Besides... if I sell it for a bit I can get quality air cooling components. Thanks for your input,

wtf dudethat thing is huge...that being said,http://www.capovani.com/dp/cat/107/63160/iinfo.cfm?LCl=986&itemno=63365&alert=other$1150 used.]

yah its allmost as large as a mid-sized computer case itself. So you say just post it on a couple of those sites?damn shipping on this thing is gonna be rediculous... it weighs atleast 60 lbs.[Edited on June 23, 2008 at 7:44 PM. Reason : s]

lol it even has an rs232 control interfacethat would be pretty badass if it weren't so bigis it loud? and how much current does it suck up?
6/23/2008 7:47:59 PM
its not that loud... I mean relatively quite for a compressor. The cool thing about this is you could put it in a closet and just run lines across the room.
6/23/2008 7:51:10 PM
yeah but you'd lose mucho heat running uninsulated lines across the roomnot to mention does it have enough driving force to run lines that long180gph isn't that much
6/23/2008 7:55:07 PM
actually mine has two control units on top of it... ones a cutoff if it gets too hot I think... the other is the temperature module
6/23/2008 7:55:10 PM
1200 Btu/hrthat could cool several computers at oncei dont know if i would waste that on just one system
6/23/2008 7:56:26 PM
I think so. They used it as a satelite cooler for a Mass spec I think.
6/23/2008 7:56:47 PM
yeah... But i have no Idea what else I could use it for?
6/23/2008 7:57:52 PM
beer
6/23/2008 7:59:52 PM
LOL... The most expensive Single Beer Chiller ever!
6/23/2008 8:03:24 PM
nah duderig up some sort of beer cooling chamber that circulates the water across a conductive medium (metal/etc) and put the beer insidethen have it push the water through thatepic beer cooler
6/23/2008 8:06:31 PM
it would be cool if you made a coffee table with cooling pads built in to keep drinks coldwhat is really going to fuck you with anything is the condensation, if you do run anything, you need to make sure that the insulation is thick enough so the outside temperature is greater than the dewpoint and every exposed surface must be insulated

lol, the other problem I thought about... how much would this:115 V 10.2 A 60 Hz 1 Phaseadd to your powerbill?Yeah... thats why I didnt run it a couple years ago on my D 805 for more than a few minutes... I was worried about it sweating.... It did cool the proc down to 5 degrees celsius though and the condensation was negligible(this was a similar chiller made by neslab. I ended up giving that one away)[Edited on June 23, 2008 at 8:18 PM. Reason : s]

watts = amps * volts115 * 10.2 = 1173 watts = 1.173 kWapprox 720 hours in a month, so 844.56 kWhavg cost per kWh = 4.86 cents4.86 * 844.56 = 4104.5616 cents = $41.05 ]

thanks... I figured an Engineering student would come to the rescue... I have one other question... its more of a poll really... Would you guys say its ethical to sell the chiller recirculator since I got it for free from my company? or should I take it back and let them throw it away?
6/23/2008 8:38:15 PM
6/23/2008 8:38:50 PM
orlyi could very well be wrong, i just googled for some numbersjoe#s knows a lot more about this than i doand p.s. i'm not an engineering major
6/23/2008 9:06:15 PM
yea 4.86 is dirt cheap, i wish it were still that.
6/23/2008 9:13:30 PM
holy fucknuts, 8.32? wow.p.s.
6/23/2008 9:21:26 PM
yea its gotten pretty high. tack on transmission and distribution charges and you could be paying up to $0.10-$0.12 cents/kWh
6/23/2008 9:28:56 PM
ok so anywayz... My problem with selling it is.... Its not really ethical to sell something I got from free from work. Additionally there are serial numbers on there so I'm not sure if its trackable and If I'd get in trouble for it?any ideas?
6/23/2008 9:33:06 PM
if they were just going to throw it away then there shouldnt be a problem
6/23/2008 9:35:00 PM
yeah I guess so, I guess its dumb but they wouldnt of given it to me if they knew I would sell it. I guess I'm just worried that it would somehow get back to them but I don't see how it would. Anyway it will probably be tough to get a buyer for it... may take weeks or months

I see 'watercooled folding @home machine rack' in your future

insulate like hell [Edited on June 24, 2008 at 12:41 AM. Reason : .]

haha, can folding at home use dual GPUs?
