The other day I was playing my 360, everything was working fine, turned it off and went to get some lunch and when I got back and turned it back on there was sound but no picture. I tried over and over and always there was sound but no picture. So I left to go to the beach, just got back after being gone for two weeks and I turn it on and there's a picture now but lots of weird distorted colors. So from the google research I've done it seems like this is a precursor to the picture totally giving out, apparently a connection comes loose to the video hardware due to heat and the whole picture craps out. It's the exact same problem as what causes the red rings of death only it doesn't cause the red rings because the 360 isn't set up to detect this connection coming loose as a problem and therefore keeps on as if nothing is wrong. So since it doesn't cause the red rings it's not covered under the extended warranty, a pretty shitty technicality in this case. So is there anything I can do to force this thing into getting the red rings?

Search google for "towel trick". Basically you wrap it in a towel and let it run for hours.
