http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/12/dell-e-and-e-slim-revealed-taking-on-eee-and-air-in-one-fell-sw/think it would have any trouble running MSword and being non-slow as hell?really thinking about getting one for simple word processing and surfing...figured a small ass computer would be nice to have for simple productivity and wouldn't be this HUGE laptop and also VERY economically priced (starting at $299!)....lemme know what you think!!

You'd be using OpenOffice, most likely.
6/20/2008 3:13:52 PM
What's with the letter "e"?
6/20/2008 3:35:30 PM
yeah, but at $299, i'm sure it's missing something crucial (something i would REQUIRE, not just like to have)
6/20/2008 3:47:19 PM
^ exactly what I was thinking...maybe an optical drive...which i could live w/ out
6/21/2008 4:40:07 PM
so what is openoffice and how functional is it?
6/22/2008 4:49:21 PM
It is a functional application to create office documents ... but don't expect it to be the same as Microsoft Office for compatibility. They try, but it's not quite as polished.

or just buy office 2007pro for $75 at the ncsu bookstoreor be like many people on here and just steal it

so you don't think this computer would be able to run a full version of word? I would think a computer w/ 8gb/512mb RAM would be able to handle word...is there something I'm missing there? Another thing, if I didn't want to order office from dell in order to get it pre-installed, how would I get word installed on that computer?
6/24/2008 5:49:38 PM
yes it will run word.if you are a student, go get it from the bookstore. if you are not a student, order it with the computer.
6/24/2008 8:23:16 PM
I have office 2003, so I imagine I would just save the money and not order it w/ the computer...unless the changes for 2007 pro are significant...
