so due to the influence of a couple extra glasses of beer and poor judgment, I just had sex in a foreign country with a very slutty woman who probably hangs out at that club everyday and get banged. I am not exactly sure what happened here folks but I have never wandered outside the "zone" in terms of sex. Now a mild sore throat developed immediately after I had sex with her, it been like a day and the sore throat is still there. I have a couple friends here and they are making the most of the situation by scaring the shit of me and telling me that was sign for HIV/AIDs....I think they are kidding?Other than the sore throat, everything else is fine with me. I did wear a condom but it was those cheap foreign brands whose name I can't pronouce. Now please give me your kind thoughts on this most delicate situation.

And I dont think I can get "tested" soon as I am in a very shitty part of a developing country....
6/20/2008 5:47:53 AM
damn son... I feel bad for you. It probably isnt HIV, but I highly suggest getting tested once you're in a developed country. It most likely is some sort of STD, could be something you caught from kissing her ( strep throat ? ). Mild soar throat isnt a symptom of HIV. I dont think any symptoms appear within the first couple of months. 99 problems and hoe aint one... [Edited on June 20, 2008 at 5:58 AM. Reason : x]

HIV can take weeks to months to show up on test (it tests for the antibodies, not the virus), and you aren't going to get immediate symptoms. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get tested immediately for other stuff, and 6 months down the road for HIV.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-exposure_prophylaxisAccording to wiki they may be able to give you post-exposure antivirals if started within 72 hours after high risk of exposure.
6/20/2008 6:11:30 AM
To markgoal and Airbag, are you guys doctors or some shit?Cause everything I've read said that symptoms appear within days to weeks after exposure. What's this "couple months" bullshit? You're both completely wrong.
6/20/2008 6:16:35 AM
it is very very uncommon for symptoms to show within the first couple of days. More than likely, this guy has a strep throat or some sort of throat infection that was spread from kissing her. Also... did you go down on her ?Notice any marks or small acne scars around her mouth or vag ?
6/20/2008 6:21:32 AM
you are all right but for different reasons, you are each talking about different things. If you put the condom on right, it didn't break and it was latex you should be fine. The sore throat could be anything, the beer, the bar was smoky, strep etc.

^No, it's the first.Acute HIV infection/syndrome, acute retroviral syndrome, primary HIV infection/syndrome all generally refer to the same thing...the first stage of infection. And everything I've read said symptoms of acute HIV infection show up a few days to several weeks after exposure to the virus. And one of those symptoms is a sore throat--not a "soar throat," by the way.[Edited on June 20, 2008 at 7:07 AM. Reason : Peace. I'm out!]

Since he used a condom, it's pretty unhelpful to be even talking about HIV. There are actually fewer cases of HIV in Europe than in the US, so again the likelihood is low. Most GPs won't even test for HIV unless you fall into a risk category (unprotected sex usually), or you're exhibiting lots of symptoms. I don't think it means anything that the condom was a "cheap foreign brand". In Europe, condom manufacturers are required to meet very rigorous standards. It's almost definitely something run of the mill, like strep, or maybe oral herpes, which is no big deal ("By the time they're teenagers or young adults, about 50% of Americans have HSV-1 antibodies in their blood. By the time they are over age 50, some 80-90% of Americans have HSV-1 antibodies." -- http://www.herpes.com/hsv1-2.html).There's no harm in getting screened for STIs. I don't think it's even worth considering a HIV test, but if your doctor thinks it's a good idea, then go for it.[Edited on June 20, 2008 at 8:24 AM. Reason : ]

regardless of what disease you may or may have been exposed to, you would not develop symptoms of anything that quickly. there's an incubation period. most likely you were exposed to someone w/ a cold or strep last week, or just some drainage from allergies.
6/20/2008 8:37:41 AM
you got flow blown aids

To answer all of your questions, 1. I did not kiss her in the mouth directly, I think she had a piercing or some kind and I hate that so we did not actually kiss. 2. Nope I did not go "down" on her3. I think the condom I wore was actually Durex, cause I remmeber getting off the hotel's mini-bar section and had to pay like 2 dollars for it. 4. The progression of the sex was pretty simple, unprotected BJ then protected bang bang, 5. It was Amazing. 6. I did not notice any scars, sores, on her, she looked prefecetly normal. 7. This happened in Asia. I didn't think itsHIV either. I mean, shouldn't I be feeling like crap if its really HIV. I think I am like phsycin myself out...
6/20/2008 9:19:19 AM
psychingthere's an incubation period. you don't catch something and feel symptoms that quick.that was pretty stupid though
6/20/2008 9:24:23 AM
My suggestion that he get tested was based on risk, not symptoms. It's possible that he could have picked something up with or without symptoms. I'm no doctor, but everything I've read says that it can take weeks to months after exposure to test positive for HIV...
6/20/2008 9:40:30 AM
Durex is a perfectly reputable condom brand. Since you didn't even kiss her, I'd say you're perfectly clean. There's a remote possibility you could have contracted something relatively harmless like HPV. Protected sex with no kissing is an extremely low risk scenario, no matter who you're having sex with.
6/20/2008 10:25:29 AM
yeah i'd still get tested for everything. a trip to the dr is definitely in order.

sore throat and "flulike" symptoms are associated with a Herpes outbreak. However, it is not common, and most likely not even possible for you to have an outbreak that quickly after being exposed to the virus. I agree with several others in this thread, you probably just got strep or some other bug that's causing the sore throat. Still definitely get tested when you get back to the states though.as for this:
6/20/2008 1:43:06 PM
this is why you jerk off bro!
6/20/2008 1:46:39 PM
and also, for the record, you can get HSV and HPV even if you wear a condom.

^^^ HPV (assuming he is honest with his partners) would at the very least have a negative effect on his sex life.Plus, there is new research saying that HPV may be linked to certain diseases in men. FWIW.

pretty much EVERYTHING is a symptom of HIV ps. and usually symptoms don't develop the SECOND after you have sex with someone. but anytime you have sex with a random person...condom or not it is probably a good idea to get tested for stds/hiv whenever you get a hot minute.
6/20/2008 5:01:46 PM
The odds of getting HIV even with unprotected sex is quite low (I seem to remember something like 1 in 200), and the odds of her having HIV much lower than that, so even if you are in Asia it's still pretty good odds for you. You should definitely get tested and it sounds like you don't know enough about any of this stuff to even be having sex HPV is curable in women now, haven't you seen the 4.5 billion commecials on Guardasil? Condoms aren't a be all as the wetness left behind on the base of your penis could still get you sick. Hopefully you took a shower after.
6/20/2008 5:29:02 PM
gardasil is a vaccine, not a treatment; there is no treatment
6/20/2008 5:39:31 PM
^^HPV is not curable, it is also a virus. They have a vaccine against 4 types of the virus(there are tons of types) and the 4 it helps to protect against are the ones that are most likely to cause cancer or warts. Once you have the virus, it can't be cured because it is pretty difficult to get rid of a virus since you can't treat it with antibiotics. prophylactic treatment ftw.^exactly[Edited on June 20, 2008 at 5:41 PM.
