INFO DESIGNER/DEVELOPER I

Requisition Number: 400214684

Occupational Summary:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day support needs of all Web projects. These support
needs include, but are not limited to, support of the parent sites ofthe Nicholas School and Nicholas
Institute along with all sub-sites including html and css coding as well as graphic production. The
position will provide support for CMS tools and multimedia projects overseeing both the School#s
iTunesU site and the use of Duke#s ViewsFlash survey tool. This position reports to the Assistant
Dean for Marketing and Communications and is supervised by the Director of Web Projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary:
Maintain the Nicholas School and associated Web sites:
1. Update/maintain content
2. Create and post new content, html and graphics based

Secondary:
1. Maintain/update the School#s iTunesU presence including, but notlimited to the editing/converting/tagging of multimedia files for posting andsyndication
2. Create/maintain web-based forms and surveys using Duke's ViewsFlash survey tool. Explore ways to improve the integration of ViewsFlash into the Nicholas Web site
3. Assist in conversion to / creation of Plone-based CMS
4. Perform other duties as needed to support the Web development goals of the Nicholas School

Qualifications:
Education: BA or BS degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience: Two or more years of hands-on Web and graphic production experience.

Technical Skills:
Required:
# Fluency in HTML, XHTML, CSS
# Experience in Multimedia production including the use of Quicktime and iTunes
# Working knowledge of Web optimization techniques
# Working knowledge of Web standards
# Competency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Dreamweaver
# Competency in MS Office products and familiarity with .pdf creation
# Familiarity with Javascript
# Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies

Desired:
# Experience with support of blogs, wikis, RSS, podcasting
# Experience with/knowledge of Flash video
# Experience with search engine optimization techniques
# Experience with the Plone/Zope Content Management System
# Experience with weblog analyzer tools

Soft Skills Required:
# Ability to interact professionally with clients
# Ability to handle several projects simultaneously
# Ability to manage conflicting deadlines
# Keen attention to detail
# Ability to provide reliable work estimates
# Excellent verbal and written communication (technical and non-technical)
# Good interpersonal skills
# Team player
# Self-motivated and goal-oriented

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Work requires a Bachelor's degree in English, technical communication
or a related field.

Experience:
Work requires the ability to produce documents for a variety of media and in a variety of genres, generally acquired through one year of experience in technical writing, with exposure to desktop publishing, or related experience.

oh, wait...how are the benefits? i used to work for duke back in the day, and liked it...but it was contract work, not full-time

benefits aren't bad. subsidized health/dental/vision. I forget the details on disability and life insurance and retirement package. 403(b). Standard stuff, I could look it up and get you more detailed info if you want. I couldn't tell you what the pay would be like there, I work at the law school.
