Post here when you drink GOOD wine. No cheap wine in this thread.


Today at the office after work we had a little zinfandel tasting.

we tried:

2002 Turley Old Vines Zinfandel - 15.9%
2005 Turley Juvenile Zinfandel - 16.4%
2006 Sobon Estate Reserve Zinfandel - 14.9% (from my collection)

We also had some Point Reyes Blue Cheese and aged mahon. I must say was awesome showing of wines. I really wish had taken some tasting notes but it was the end of the day and i was feeling lazy. The 2002 Turley was the my favorite.

And to top it all off my boss gave me a bottle of 2002 Turley Mead Ranch Zinfandel. What a great end to a stressful day.

What do you mean by "No cheap wine"? That's different for every person. And there are good wines in every price range.

^ true. 2007 Boone's Farm Snow Creek Berry would qualify as cheap wine.

This thread is really about quality. If you can buy it at food lion then it probably doesn't belong here. The Turley wines I listed are only like 30-40 from the winemaker but sell for about 70-80 plus when you can find it from private vendors. They a kinda rare. The Sobon Estate is about $25 a bottle.

i think wine just isnt for me. ive never had a wine that I enjoyed drinking :/ I havent tried that many to be honest though. Only tried wine a dozen times or so.

^Keep trying. It took me a little while too.

First I couldn't drink any wines. Then it was just fruity/sweet whites. Then I finally made my way to reds. Then I became a red snob. Now I'm back to appreciating all types. Although I've yet to develop an affinity for Roses...and I've never been a fan of Champagne/Cavas.

not sure if this thread is only for amazing bottles, or just good drinkable wine, but...

2005 shiloh road cab - very nice for only about $15, i discovered it during bevmo's 5 cent wine sale and have been going back to it for about a year now

2005 cambria chardonnay katherine's vineyard - i really like buttery california chards though i realize many people don't, love to pick this up for a warm sunday afternoon (also recently had cambria's pinot noir that's pretty good too, was cheap at costco!)

i accidently bought an out-of-my-price-range bottle of wine a few weeks ago while in sonoma -- it's a 2005 ledson ancient vine zin, looking forward to enjoying it soon (i don't think they distribute though, so not sure if you can get it outside of the winery)

The Wine Merchant Raleigh got one of these a couple months ago, though their model holds 12 bottles:



I was there when the owner of the company was installing it...really cool. You basically insert a card that records your charges and pay when you're done.

a consumer model that holds 4 bottles is $6,000

Dom Perignon 1998 <--- pretty good but Veuve Clicquot is better

And then the cheap stuff, almost any Cava rocks, reds and some whites from south america are good, almost all spanish wines are also great. Especially whites good summer drinking.

same here...pretty much hated wine...went to Europe, now i love it!

I also love pretty much anything Spanish. Drink Spanish reds about 95% of the time.

Veuve Clicquot is definitely good stuff, affordable too

I've also have some good Greek whites from Santorini, one in particular was freshly bottled from the barrel at Argyros Winery. When I walked in the place it was pretty much a lab, the whites were phenomenal though.

My favorite local wines--local to Livermore, CA where I live:
Fenestra - True Red $10
Steven Kent - Everything ($20+)
Wente - Riva Ranche Chardonnay/Nth Degree Wines ($13-50)
Cedar Mountain - Any of their ports
Chouinard - Alicante Brouschet ($5-15)
Stony Ridge - Syrah (cuz' it has like 17% alcohol content!!!)

After climbing in Argentina I'm also a huge fan of Mendoza/San Juan area Malbecs. So tasty and yet so cheap!!!
I also like Sonora area Zins but I can't recall the particular wineries I like right now.

Anyone else make wine here?

I've been tempted to try, I've been making beer for a few years now. A little skeptical about it, not sure if I would be able to make anything worthwhile.
