6/13/2008 3:53:42 PM
No one on that network held a candle to Russert's insight, fairness, and intelligence. This is a shame.
6/13/2008 3:57:50 PM
blitzer could if he wanted to imo
6/13/2008 3:59:17 PM
RIP.
6/13/2008 4:07:46 PM
^^ Not from CNN he couldn't. And no, Blitzer is far and away no Russert.
6/13/2008 4:13:42 PM

hmmmm first i heard heart attack, then cardiac arrest...now ^...interesting
6/13/2008 5:37:04 PM
Russert had just flown back from overseas. The flight and the embolism may be connected--but this is just speculation on my part. The association between air travel and deep vein thrombosis: Systematic review & meta-analysishttp://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=434500[Edited on June 13, 2008 at 5:52 PM. sad news. That is just to young to go.
6/13/2008 6:38:33 PM
^^I thought the same thing. DVT is a nasty problem that's not well-understood by many travelers.
6/13/2008 7:46:09 PM
Very sad news defiantly a loss for all news watching americans
6/13/2008 8:55:47 PM
Edward R. Murrow will be waiting to greet him in that big Press-Room-in-the Sky.

I had to Google it because I didn't believe it

One of the few great journalists on TV. Meet the Press was about the only show I made sure to watch on a weekly basis w/ DVR, etc.Who gets tapped to replace him? David Gregory? Chris Matthews will surely be in the running but is a bit combative and lacks Russert's personal touch when asking the tough questions. Chuck Todd seems too passive. I like Joe Scarborough but this isn't the right format, and noone else really comes to mind. Most of NBC's stable is full of lightweights, or people who are over the hill. Of course NBC could go the route of an unknown again, seeing it worked out w/ Russert.[Edited on June 14, 2008 at 10:39 AM. Reason : .]
6/14/2008 10:35:21 AM
Matthews is right at home on Hardball. My guess is that your first inkling is correct. I think NBC's going to give Gregory a shot.[Edited on June 14, 2008 at 2:22 PM. Reason : substitute teacher...]
6/14/2008 2:21:55 PM
my first thought was gregory...he'd probably be a better moderator than having his own live show
6/14/2008 3:35:51 PM
Russert was a lightweight
6/14/2008 3:51:17 PM
this was the first "celebrity death" (i cant stand the fact that i'm even using that term) that i've ever genuinely felt sad over. he was BY FAR my favorite political commentator and i can remember election night 2000 like it was a day ago. what an awful, awful day. olbermann perhaps as a replacement?[Edited on June 15, 2008 at 12:52 AM. Reason : awful]
6/15/2008 12:50:17 AM
lol come on guy there is no way they'd pick olberman
6/15/2008 12:51:13 AM
^^ I seriously doubt Olbermann since his show is one of the highest rated on MSNBC. I could see him as a guest interviewer maybe but not a permanent thing.
6/15/2008 12:55:44 AM
haha "one of the highest rated"...dude still probably gets creamed by oreilly.....hes not even a true pundit imo...at least matthews is politically astute enough to fill russerts shoes...olberman would be a fuckin travesty
6/15/2008 12:57:33 AM
FYI:
6/15/2008 1:41:45 AM
i hope they pick someone as interim host before they go and just try to pick the sub for him right this instance
6/15/2008 1:51:59 AM
^ I'm sure NBC will do just that.
6/15/2008 1:55:38 AM
6/15/2008 2:04:17 AM
ok i think you are thinking i think oreilly is goodwhich makes you dumb no offensenot saying oreilly is good but hes definitely better than fucking cambell brown or whatever her name is at 8pm on cnn, and better than fucking shitty ass olberman at 8pm....oreilly wins by default which is sad
6/15/2008 2:06:59 AM
I was referring to your comment on whether it has high ratings or not. I never said anything about O'Reilly.
6/15/2008 10:02:46 AM
Hooksaw, did you read your own paper?QUOTE:We found no evidence to support the claim that air travel (3 hours or more) is associated with an increased risk of developing DVT. We identified a wide range of estimates of the incidence of DVT in air travellers. Symptomatic DVT despite its prominence in the press is remarkably rare. Many published studies related to asymptomatic DVT, the clinical significance of which remains uncertain and needs to be ascertained. Interestingly, there was evidence of a small increase in the risk of symptomatic DVTs associated with all forms of long distance travel. This finding is suggestive that travel by land puts individuals at more risk of DVT than air travel. With regard to passengers in Kraaijenhagen et al study [24], patients who travel more than 5 hours, no associated risk of DVT was shown. We believe that this finding from the analysis of this subgroup cannot be confidently interpreted. This is because the total number of patients with DVT who travel by plane was reported as 4/186 and in the control (without DVT) 13/602. Any subgroup analysis according to the length of flight e.g. 10 hours would further reduce the number of cases and consequently would reduce the power of the study. END QUOTE.[Edited on June 15, 2008 at 3:19 PM. Reason : ..........]

^ Of course not--I relied on the abstract. I was hoping someone else would read the entire paper for me--thanks for volunteering to do the heavy lifting.
