Burke Brothers Hardware5227 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, NC - (919) 851-1211Take Hillsborough Street towards Cary, go past the Fairgrounds, and immediately past Youth Center Road and the end of the Fairgrounds, it will be on your left. Go around back and talk to the dude in the little shack attached to the building. I took one there a few years back and it's run like a champ ever since.Just came across this on one of the reviews from Google Maps.

have you checked the obvious stuff like the air filter, and a new spark plug every year isnt a bad idea either, i would be willing to bet your air filter is clogged up completely from the sound of it

I changed that stuff about 2 years ago and that was to get it working. I remember it having the same problem though. Took like 10 tries before it turned and the sound of the mower just sounded and still sounds very shitty. its all....glug glug glug glug ba ba glug glug ba glug glug wamma glug glug.I will change the spark plug and the air filter again to try and fix it before i take it somewhere. I have no problem trying to turn it 10 times before it goes nor do i have a problem with it sounding like shit, but i'm leaving the mower to someone who will be mowing the lawn as i will be hiking the AT....i just want it to work well for them.....It will be a girl mowing the lawn so i dont want it to be a hassle for her

Also, check the fuel filter and make sure that the vent for the fuel tank is unobstructed.

will do....i have mentioned the problem to a few people and they have suggested that the problem may be the carburetor...I wish i could make the sound on tww that it makes...no rhythm whatsoever
6/12/2008 1:55:02 PM
just do a harp recording, i know you can do that

Before you do anything take the air filter out and see if it runs better. 9 times out of 10 that thing is clogged up, especially if you don't have full grass coverage of your yard and you're running over dirt or pine straw covered areas. If it is the air filter you're looking at a 15 minute trip to Home Depot and $5 to fix it.If not that, then I'd try the spark plug too before taking it to a shop. It would just suck to spend more time taking it somewhere and picking it up than it takes to actually fix the thing.[Edited on June 12, 2008 at 4:21 PM. Reason : s]

iirc, adam8778 and I checked that thing out last fall whilst we lived with the doza - the air filter is fine, the spark plug could probably need a gap check... our diagnosis was the carb could be gummed up after having sat for nearly a year (we mowed like 3 times total, after the first of august)

you can buy a new one at wally world for <$100, is it really work payin someone $60 to fix? all that cheap shit is practically disposable now

ill sell my 2 year old toro. new blade every 6 months, oil changed every year, personal pace self propelled, mulching, never gave me a bit of trouble, starts every single time and runs perfect. has electric start but it needs a battery, i just always pull start it.
6/12/2008 10:00:35 PM
you couldnt just roll that bitch over and sharpen the blade?

get a can of carb cleaner (spray that bitch down and put the mower away dry), that, a tune up and some new points got mine going last year.if it's old, the points could be worn out. not an expensive part if you order online.

^5 As random chance would have it, my Uncle was actually telling me about that Uhaul place last night. He said they're the cheapest that he knows of as well. He said the UHaul place farther north on Capital, outside the beltline, near IHOP, does the same thing.
6/16/2008 7:06:07 PM
can i get an address on the BJ's? I need to run by during operating hours.
6/17/2008 9:16:55 AM
If it's the air filter and you're cheap (like me)just take and vacuum the outside clean. I'll last ten times longer.
6/17/2008 10:40:02 AM
