yeah ever since I've been able to (of the financial means), my brother and I usually take him out somewhere nice for dinner
6/5/2008 11:04:42 AM
I got my dad a bottle of 18 year old scotch last year.
6/5/2008 11:07:05 AM

6/5/2008 11:10:31 AM

im thinking about giving my pop a prepaid gas card and some other stuff since he has a long commute for work every day

Last year the Sharper Image had a pretty good deal on a really nice grilling set that was usually $100. If you bought any other item in the store, it was half price. That may still seem like a lot, but it had a ton of stuff in it and it was good quality.
6/5/2008 11:16:17 AM
I wouldn't bother with Sharper Image this year. They're going out of business, and the company handling the liquidation has a history of marking shit up 50%, and then making the discounts For my dad this year, I'm giving him some framed pictures. He went to the Air Force Academy, so while I was on my roadtrip, I stopped and got some pictures of the courtyard and chapel. It'll probably be a 10x14 of that, and some butterscotch cookies.

Your sense of humor seems to have died pretty quickly there, sport.

beer is the universal gift between my father and ichristmas morning is cool, passing gifts around"hey i got you beer, here unwrap it""hey i got you beer too, but it's in the fridge, lets get started on our gifts to make the rest of this bearable"
6/5/2008 12:58:40 PM
i was going to suggest, i always get a huge thumbs up and a good 2-3 months of worship with beer from any guy... go to world market and put together a gift 12-pack of some exotic beers that he would probably like.
6/5/2008 1:25:27 PM
p.s. throw in a dvd of animal house and a bag of (nice - not dollar tree) pretzels, and maybe some dip or something, that would cost around $40ish
6/5/2008 1:27:24 PM
Or, if he's the right sort of man, you could get him a good home brewing kit.
6/5/2008 1:27:51 PM
Got pops a round at Sawgrass this yearwith 100 bucks riding on if he puts it in the water or not at 17
6/5/2008 1:29:43 PM
ooh good call skwinkle, that would be a cool gift.also, a neat surprise is to get someone to get him out of the house and leave his vehicle there, then while he's gone, wash/wax/detail the whole thing. some men are anal about their cars, actually i'm really anal about mine, but as long as you do a good job and don't mess up anything by using CHEAP products, he'd probably be stoked.

slave famous has the only worthwhile contribution to this thread thus far

if he likes to grill/cook....i was kinda thinking really quality meat could be a good gift
6/6/2008 6:11:23 PM
I sometimes get my dad a card and he'll call and tell me happy fathers day. Thats about the extent of it.

I'm probably sending my Dad a giftcard to a restaurant since he lives out of state. I plan on getting my husband concert tickets and cooking him dinner
6/7/2008 10:56:12 AM
^ my dad is out of date, I plan on trying to fly up to see him for a weekend later in the month. He's having hip surgery so someone to play cards with, etc will be enjoyable

For father's day I'm going to name my dad's first grandson after him.(He already has a cordless drill)[Edited on June 7, 2008 at 3:26 PM. Reason : ..]

I got my dad this:in t-shirt form. It's ugly as hell but that's what he wanted
6/8/2008 12:01:30 AM
i just ordered my dad ex officio buzz off shorts, t shirt, baseball cap, and socks. this is his first summer at the new house out in the country and the flies are horrible (not biting, but obnoxious)
6/8/2008 9:27:24 AM
a wii? xm radio? these are what we're considering for my dad anyway
6/8/2008 2:12:10 PM
haha, my mom was thinking about a wii . . . but my dad has can probably count on one hand how many video games he has played in his life.
6/8/2008 2:14:17 PM
same with my dad!! but i think he'd really like wii sports and the other games that are similar to games he likes to play. he likes to play all those tom clancy (i think) computer games and he used to like medal of honor (again i think that is what it is) on playstation. and he LOVES LOVES i mean LOVES racing games so i was thinking a little mario kart (because i'm kindof addicted so i know he'd like it). i think he might even like superpapermario but that might be too hard for him. he really loves my ds though so, i think he'd love the marios on the wii.but my mom just told me she was leaning towards satellite radio instead. oh well!!
6/8/2008 5:58:17 PM
I'm getting my dad a navigation system - not because he needs one, but because he thinks mine is awesome. I know it kinda violates the not asking for directions man-rule... but I think it'll be a hit
6/8/2008 6:54:41 PM
My grandmother bought a Wii for my cousin that lives with her last Christmas. I swear by the time we returned to NC my grandmother was playing it more than my cousin
6/8/2008 7:57:15 PM
Well, I'm going to give my dad a card and offer to help out as much as I can as long as my sleep stuff gets sorted out before I get a job. I mean he's got a shed that needs to be painted (and part of it still needs to be primed), a house that needs lots and lots of improvement work (hardwood floors installed, tile floors installed, walls and trim painted, some powerwashing, drainage improvement, carpet cleaning, probably gutter cleaning with a power washer, a new deck, new linoleum in the kitchen, new outlets switches and covers, new light fixtures, HVAC repairs), and a yard with some crazy overgrown plants that need trimming (including some redtips from hell that need to get cut down to about 1/3 their height, and they're easily three times my height). I figure he'd appreciate help with the stuff he's got building up around the house more than if I went and tried to buy him some sort of gift (and I can't afford anything worth a damn right now). This gift offer only works if you live NEAR your parents, however.
6/8/2008 8:19:44 PM
i live WITH my parents this summer and i was helping my dad garden a lot. it was fun quality time haha. but then we both got a bunch of ticks on us (like a TON) and we sort of gave up the habit. we got a lot planted though. hopefully they don't die in the heat! i think helping dad's out with projects is definitely a good gift. well at least for my dad it would be because he really likes to do projects and he loves when we help because now that we're older we're never around and if we are i mean...i feel like the last thing a lot of 20 somethings wanna do is plant flowers with their dads on a saturday
6/8/2008 9:58:29 PM
I'm away from my parents and have no way of visiting for the summer, any suggestions?Like 'get a card', send flowers, i dunno...[Edited on June 9, 2008 at 2:45 AM. Reason : .]
