I'm looking for some cheap phone service, does anybody know any good local services I can get for under $15/mo? I'm not looking for long distance or anything, just so I can use the phones I currently have. I looked into skype, but they require me to buy a phone through them, and I don't want that. I just want something I can make local calls through, and if say my parents called me from outta town, they could call to my house phones and it wouldn't cost me any money.

Anybody know any good plans like that? Thanks

You can take it wherever you have a computer and keep the same number. It plugs in to USB port, and 911 location can simply be typed in for wherever you are at the moment. *The service is barely tolerable at 1-3Mbps internet and an old/slow computer, but an improvement in either one and the reception is perfect.

Voicemails are converted to mp3's and emailed to you so you can know you missed a call at home when you are at work and hear the message. Or you can listen to them on your message machine at home like the old days. It can be linked through Google's Grand Central Station to ring your other phones also whenever it is called.

You can pick your number from a couple dozen locations in the country, so you can have a number that is local for a person who you talk to a lot.

thanks for the advice, i'll be looking into vonage more, i saw they have a 500 min. local/long distance thing for $15/mo and it lets me keep my old phone and number, which is nice



i have a cell phone, so really i should be saving money, but i already have the phones and it would be nice to keep using them, plus it ensures against those nasty reception problems that can happen some.
