how long can that shit be unrefrigerated until its spoiled? been room temp since thursday at about 10pm
5/20/2008 10:37:45 PM
Yeah...get rid of it.Trivia fact: Ketchup and Mustard were the nick names of the two cyborg ninjas in Mortal Kombat 3, Sektor and Cyrax, respectively.
5/20/2008 10:38:56 PM
it's still good. but you should use a lot of it to be sure you get the full flavor. and no sense in putting it back in the fridge, just leave it out till you use it all
5/20/2008 10:39:02 PM
should be fine
5/20/2008 10:39:06 PM
if its unopened, i would say a few monthsi mean its not refrigerated in the stores and who knows how long it is on the shelves there for[Edited on May 20, 2008 at 10:39 PM. Reason : f]

This is relevant to my interests. I just used a big ass bottle that's been in the pantry for a while, the date on it says 6/2007. Tasted fine, a little warm. Just used it Monday night, and I'm ok so far.
5/20/2008 10:40:24 PM
It was good knowing you BJCaudill21, whoever the fuck you are.
5/20/2008 10:41:36 PM
ketchup is fine. i don't eat mustard, so i dunno about that.
5/20/2008 10:41:48 PM
when i was younger i would go to my friend's house to spend the night. his parents never refrigerated their ketchup or mustard. they just kept it in the cabinet. they're all still alive, one of his brothers is in prison, but still alive.]
5/20/2008 10:42:37 PM
ok...both are opened....so trash the mustard and keep the ketchup?
5/20/2008 10:43:48 PM
If you leave the mustard out for too long it can ferment and release mustard gas, which can be fatal.
5/20/2008 10:44:05 PM
Mustard doesn't spoil. It may lose flavor over time, but you wont get sick from it.Ketchup does spoil, but you're still probably okay after a few days, just smell it. it ferments
5/20/2008 10:44:52 PM
ketchup doesn't have to be refrigerated after opening and my bottle of mustard says "for best flavor, refrigerate after opening". So I would say they would both be ok, but the mustard may not taste "the best"
5/20/2008 10:46:45 PM
ok thanks ^^ and ^
5/20/2008 10:48:51 PM
i don't know of any restaurant that refridgerates their ketchup, none of the ones i ever worked at did. i do keep mine in the fridge though.
5/20/2008 10:49:22 PM
I never refrigerate ketchup.
5/20/2008 10:51:25 PM
restaurants go through ketchup so quickly it probably doesn't have to be refrigeratedwhat boggles my mind is the squirt mayo that says you don't need to refrigerate.
5/20/2008 10:52:06 PM
5/20/2008 10:55:14 PM
^yep. pretty gross.
5/20/2008 10:58:02 PM
I've been in several restaurants where ketchup and mustard was on the table at room temp. Always tasted fine and I'm sure they had been out at least all day, if not longer.
5/20/2008 10:58:27 PM
The last time that I had gross old ketchup was at Sadlacks.I said something to the bartender and he had no idea that ketchup could go bad.

i thought places that left ketchup/mustard/mayo out had like a different kind made especially for restaurants that didn't require refrigeration.perhaps i will google.ok so apparently there is a kind of non refrigeratable mayo.and then ketchup and mustard don't spoil out of the fridge fast because of vinegar. who knew.[Edited on May 20, 2008 at 11:07 PM. What a shitty thread. Is it too complicated to figure out if food is spoiled? Can you smell ?Can you taste?
5/20/2008 11:29:06 PM
u should have read it first before commenting imo
5/20/2008 11:30:16 PM
I don't refridgerate ketchup or mustard (spicy brown). I usually have a bottle for at least 3 months. Never gotten sick, never tasted off, never smelled bad. Nothing.YMMV, but I don't intend to start keeping either cold. Mayo is a different story. I've encountered that before.
5/20/2008 11:35:39 PM
Ketchup can go unrefrigerated. I don't know about mustard cuz I don't eat it.Mayo definitely has to be refrigerated.
5/20/2008 11:57:55 PM
ketchup or mustard are ok (even after being cooled then later left out).[Edited on May 21, 2008 at 12:52 AM. Reason : .]
5/21/2008 12:48:45 AM
Ketchup and mustard do not have to be refrigerated. They can go weeks and still be ok.
5/21/2008 12:49:36 AM
i used to never refrigerate mustard (only do now because the girlfriend prefers it that way) and i only refrigerate ketchup because i think it tastes better cold.you don't need to refrigerate these things.

^^ I think his question really means I had them refrigerated and left them out, so are they still good.If the question is do you have to refrigerate them, then the answer is no.[Edited on May 21, 2008 at 12:56 AM. Reason : .]

i guess i am biased - i lived a block away before they renovated, like early 2000's before they put up the gate between the parking lots...
5/21/2008 1:03:50 AM
^ so did he (Noen) and they have always had awesome sandwichesYes I was sketched out to eat there or drink there, but there sandwiches were off the chain (I usually got them to go).[Edited on May 21, 2008 at 2:11 AM. Reason : .]
