So the Raleigh ones (at least on Glenwood) are running a deal where you get no interest financing until 2012, if you spend at least $3000. We're looking to upgrade our living room since my sofas are older than i am and smell worse too. We found a leather sofa/chair/loveseat set we like, and can add another chair to get it over $3k. It's really out of our price range if we paid in full, but if we can pay for it over the next 42 months w/no interest it'll be no problem.

The only thing i question is the quality of their furniture. I feel like i always hear horror stories about shit from rooms to go, or ashley, or haverty's or whomever. aren't all these places basically the same? if you shouldn't buy from here, where should you go? i'd like to get at least 10 years or so out of this stuff.

you're going to hear people complain about anything, just something to consider. Most of those stores' furniture is fine if you can just ignore the salesmen trying to push warranties and protection sprays etc. when youre buying.

it's a good program as long as you don't miss a payment - if you do then it's the worst deal out there

Just investigate the furniture yourself and make your own judgment. Look at the wood used. Is it real wood or some composite material made of sawdust and glue with a veneer to make it look like solid wood? How are the joints constructed? Are they sturdy, or can you see an obviously way they could come loose under stress? If it's a couch, would you worry about 3 200 lb guys sitting on it or would you think something might break?

If it looks or feels cheap, it is. Pay attention to where things are made, what they are made of, and how they're built.

You get what you pay for. Roomstore & the like sell cheap, low quality furniture. And there is nothing wrong with that if you're budget minded.

To get good quality furniture you are going to pay at least 50% more for a similar item.

Higher quality stuff will hold up alot longer, but you may decide you don't like the functionality or fabric after a couple years too.

If you want a good guess of the quality, just ask where their stuff is made. R2G/Roomstore/whatever all ship their stuff from China and it is lower quality. The quality isn't so horrible that the furniture will be useless in 2 years though, unless you completely abuse it.

There is no furniture worth financing. Either you have the money or you don't.

If you don't have the cash then make do with used stuff until you do. I think a lot of people would find that once they save $3000 they don't want to blow it on furniture.

we bought a roomstore couch and bed when we bought our house. i agree that you get what you pay for (although so far they've both held up pretty well...its been almost 3 years), but we couldnt justify paying much more for furniture when we have a dog who likes to jump on it.

roomStore is not 10 year furniture. Mayyyybe 5.

And there isn't any place you can get a quality made sofa/chair/loveseat combo for 3K that is going to last 10 years.

FYI, almost all NC based furniture is imported from China now. The companies still are headquartered here, but have long since closed their manufacturing facilities. I know this for a fact with 3 or 4 major NC furniture companies, but I'm pretty sure all of them have by now.

The problem is you can't tell how well a piece is made unless they have a demo cross-section. Build quality is almost all internal, what kind of construction technique they used, the width of timber, how the couch/seat is sprung or stretched, it all adds up.

i guess i worded that poorly. we have the cash to pay at once, but why would i when i can pay at my leisure over the next 3.5 years? W/no interest it doesn't make sense to me NOT to put it on a payment plan. i'm not 'blowing' it on furniture. the stuff i have is seriously old junk.


so if all the discount furniture places are junk, where can i get some good stuff w/out driving to high point? i'm sure they charge $texas to deliver from there, especially w/gas now. anywhere around raleigh? what about like rhodes, or ethan allen? aren't those just the same, chinese import sofas?

tww, craigslist, and thrift stores also have cheap furniture....will last 1-3 years easy...best deal for your money

I just bought a couch, chair & ottoman set off of craigslist that was from rooms to go, it's about 6 or 7 years old.

pros: great condition- no stains, still VERY comfy. still in good shape, in a household of 2 kids and 2 adults.

cons: the fabric is faded a bit in high-wear spots (on armrests). It was also in a very sunny area of their living room, so that might have something to do with it.

I think you get what you pay for, and if you take good care of it, you should be satisfied. I think this couch set held up extremely well considering the family.
