so since my summer consists of little more than work and play, i'm going to go into the depths of insanity and beat all of the past games of each year from the past 20 years. here is my list:1987- The Legend of Zelda1988- Contra1989- River City Ransom1990- Super Mario Bros. 31991- Super Castlevania IV1992- Zelda: Link To The Past1993- Mega Man X1994- Final Fantasy VI1995- Vectorman1996- Super Mario 641997- Goldeneye 0071998- Metal Gear Solid1999- System Shock II2000- Perfect Dark2001- Halo2002- Metroid Prime2003- Wind Waker2004- Half Life 22005- Resident Evil 42006- Gears of War2007- BioShocki really don't want to include more than one RPG otherwise this will take forever, but I'm sure I missed a few. give your opinion

For me, I would have Call of Duty 4 in 2007, hands fucking down. Also, I would've probably done God of War in 2005
5/18/2008 3:34:41 PM

5/18/2008 3:46:25 PM
to not have ff7 is a travesty.
5/18/2008 3:48:20 PM
5/18/2008 3:50:23 PM
^ agreedI find myself not wanting to invest in buying new games. I will only buy a game if its one of the best games of the year. And I have fallen out of love with console games. The only thing I have played that I could buy would be COD4 for the multiplayer. I cant get over how much more I enjoy PC games. To go into detail with this threads topic would take to much time....so I wont
5/18/2008 3:53:13 PM
I'm tying to finish up all the console games I still have before I purchase a new system.Kingdom HeartsKingdom Hearts 2God of War 2Final Fantasy XIIContra: Shattered SoldierRatchet & Clank: Up Your ArsenalJak 3OkamiBullyFinal Fantasy X-2PsychonautsLego Star Wars 1 & 2Dragon Quest VIIISplinter Cell: Chaos TheoryYakuzaMarvel: UADevil May Cry 3ICOIn other words I can't wait to see what the PS4 can do.
5/18/2008 3:58:55 PM
Ocarina of Time should be on there.i don't know what you would end up replacing b/c i can't remember the year but IMO ocarina of time is the best game of all time
5/18/2008 4:47:48 PM
Ocarina of Time was released in 1998. It should easily replace MGS, but it were up to me I'd have the MGS series as the most overrated game series of all time.
5/18/2008 5:01:42 PM
5/18/2008 5:07:53 PM
I do realize that Ocarina of Time came out in 1998, but since I already have 3 other Zelda games on that list (really, they're all so damned good), I wanted to give MGS a chance.Seriously, come up with some game's I'm missing. Surely something else that kicked ass came out in 2003.
5/18/2008 5:10:31 PM
Call of Duty was released in 2003. That was a pretty awesome game, and a bit of a breath of fresh air to the ww2 game genre
5/18/2008 5:13:56 PM
KOTOR came out in 03. that said, i guarantee theres something better in 95 than vectorman.
5/18/2008 5:18:35 PM
Warcraft II was released in 1995. Also, Starcraft, hands down the best RTS ever was released in 1998.
5/18/2008 5:22:58 PM
shit, yoshi's island came out in 1995. i forgot about that one
5/18/2008 5:45:22 PM
what a great game.i have to say that i liked super mario world better than super mario bros 3
5/18/2008 5:53:06 PM
Chrono Trigger was released in 1995, probably should put that over Vectorman.
5/18/2008 6:16:20 PM
1991- Tecmo Super Bowl
5/18/2008 6:41:47 PM
^^ damn, I can't believe I forgot about fucking Chrono Trigger.
5/18/2008 7:05:10 PM
final fantasy VI, was that even released in the US?
5/18/2008 7:15:59 PM
Doom has to replace Mega Man X for 1993. I won't budge on this one.
5/18/2008 7:23:41 PM
KOTOR for 2003 hands down
5/18/2008 7:25:24 PM
okay.......i've updated my list1987- Mike Tyson's Punch Out1988- Contra1989- Mega Man 21990- ?1991- Super Mario World / Castlevania 41992- Zelda: Link To The Past1993- Doom1994- Super Metroid1995- Chrono Trigger / Yoshi's Island1996- ?1997- Goldeneye 0071998- Metal Gear Solid1999- System Shock II2000- Perfect Dark2001- Halo2002- Metroid Prime2003- ?2004- Half Life 22005- Resident Evil 42006- Gears of War2007- BioShock[Edited on May 18, 2008 at 8:37 PM. Reason : i can't have a series more than once in my list.....]
5/18/2008 8:22:49 PM
i'm going to play and beat all these games before school starts again. i'm going to start with the oldest year and work my way towards the more recent games.
5/18/2008 8:23:37 PM
dude, have you ever actually beaten punch-out? I know I've never beaten the last guy in either of them.[Edited on May 18, 2008 at 9:17 PM. Reason : .]
5/18/2008 9:16:24 PM
1995 - chrono trigger is infinitely better than vectorman.
5/18/2008 9:29:58 PM
yeah, he replaced it on the redone list
5/18/2008 9:36:46 PM
Having to pick one Zelda game...you definitely made the right call. Link to the Past is definitely my favorite. And yeah beating Punch-Out might take you all summer, haha.
5/18/2008 9:37:19 PM
NHL 1997 for Segabest game ever
5/18/2008 9:49:38 PM
5/18/2008 9:50:43 PM
no mario karts?
5/18/2008 10:06:06 PM
woulda figured grand theft auto would make it somewhere on there
5/18/2008 10:30:12 PM
while punch-out is a fine game, there is no way it was better than:Final FantasyManiac MansionStreet Fighter
5/18/2008 10:31:06 PM
^^GTA III would have to beat out Halo. (I don't think it does)VC Metroid Prime. (maybe)SA HalfLife 2. (again, I don't think so)
5/18/2008 10:38:22 PM
i was thinking about replacing Metroid Prime with Vice City solely due to the fact that I have Super Metroid for 1994. Or should I replace Super Metroid with Sonic 3 & Knuckles? 2003 I'm thinking of picking F-Zero GX just to have a racing game on there. 1996 possibly Super Mario RPG. What about 1990? Suggestions? And for the record, I'm not going to beat Mike Tyson because not only would that take up a good chunk of summer in itself but possibly my sanity. I'm going to finish Macho Man and then it's over.[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 1:32 AM. Reason : .]
5/19/2008 1:31:16 AM
Don't take Super Metroid off, that is one of the best games on the SNES, and in my opinion THE best non-linear side scroller ever made. I think in terms of SNES games, it's ranked third behind Chrono Trigger and Super Mario World based off of gamerankings.
5/19/2008 2:25:26 PM
Viewtiful Joe, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, or KOTOR for 2003. You really really should have Ocarina of Time on there, even though MGS was a landmark game. Between the two however, I'd say OoT holds up better. The series evolved so much from MGS to MGS3, that going back and playing the original is extremely painful. I'd put MGS3:Subsistence for 2006 and put OoT in 1998.Try this for 1996, lots of great choices,http://tinyurl.com/6dkuap.[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 2:52 PM. Reason : :]
5/19/2008 2:39:01 PM
Ah yes, Sands of Time was an amazing games. One of the few Gamecube games I've actually held on to.
5/19/2008 2:48:33 PM
5/19/2008 3:55:24 PM
No love for Contra 3?
5/19/2008 4:13:56 PM
would you put it above Zelda: Link to the Past? Some of these games being suggested are really good games and could go on a "best games, regardless of year" list, but they're not necessarily better than the game already listed for that given year. It's all subjective anyway, so if you got an argument for a certain game no harm in making it.
5/19/2008 4:56:26 PM
Castlevania Symphony of the night
5/19/2008 6:37:49 PM
...is not better than Goldeneye
5/19/2008 6:40:35 PM
meh, I'd put Castlevania: SOTN way above Goldeneye as a single-player game.Goldeneye was the first console FPS to really nail a fun multiplayer experience, but Symphony of the Night has to go down as one of the greatest 2D platformers ever made.
5/19/2008 6:44:41 PM
Yeah, it definitely wins in single player. I just know I've played more hours of goldeneye than I probably have any other game, but I guess time spent playing does not necessarily make it a superior game.
5/19/2008 7:04:16 PM
i personally think oblivion is better than GOW too, but whatever. gow was technically impressive, but multiplayer was only alright and single player was short.
5/19/2008 8:00:59 PM
you need to cut out this "that series is over represented" shit. if it was better than other games that year who the fuck cares if it is on the list in other spots. that just means that company/game maker is doing a damn fine job, or the other games that year are shit.
5/19/2008 10:46:24 PM
maybe, but i dont think prime was better than every game in its year, nor do i think windwaker was.[Edited on May 19, 2008 at 11:00 PM. Reason : nm, prime came out during a pretty dry year.]
5/19/2008 10:57:54 PM
I still contend that Starcraft should replace MGS for 1998. I believe MGS was the first game in the "stealth" genre, and had an unprecedented storyline/cutscenes, but Starcraft set the benchmark for it's genre. It can still be considered the best RTS game on the market in terms of gameplay and balance, and it's a decade old. The amount of people who still play the game online to this day should be a testament to it's excellence.
5/19/2008 11:38:24 PM
ussj, you make a point. I really don't feel like playing through Vice City again, so Super Metroid says at 1994 and Metroid Prime at 2002. Here is the list:1987- Mike Tyson's Punch Out1988- Contra1989- Mega Man 21990- Super Mario Brothers 31991- Super Castlevania 41992- Zelda: Link To The Past1993- Doom1994- Super Metroid1995- Chrono Trigger1996- Super Mario RPG1997- Goldeneye 0071998- Metal Gear Solid1999- System Shock II2000- Perfect Dark2001- Halo2002- Metroid Prime2003- Viewtiful Joe2004- Half Life 22005- Resident Evil 42006- Gears of War2007- BioShockI've beat Punch Out and just finished Mega Man 2........games sure have come a long way. There's a lot of bullshit in Mega Man 2 now that I didn't notice in the past, but the soundtrack is killer. Punch Out is great no matter how you look at it.
