My roommates drive an 2002 Ford Explorer. Im pretty sure its the 4WD model. Yesterday he went to JustTires and had 4 tires put on and a 4 wheel alignment. He said right after the install his SUV started making a noise, that got louder as he drove.

Well today the drive shaft broke, snapped back and punctured the gas tank!!

Im trying to figure out was it time for it to break, or what could have justtires do to cause this??

The fault here lies with your friend and the fact that he continued to drive it as the noise got progressively louder. Ignoring a noise, or driving around scratching your head while it gets worse is just plain stupid, and this lesson is going to cost him much more than a driveshaft rebuild would have.

Well some shop replaced it with one from a junk yard and patched the tank. And now they claim somehow his alternator got fucked up.

Truck will run fine, but if u cut it off, it wont start back and has to be jumped. I told him thats a bad battery. If the alt was bad, the truck would shut off on its own.

He doesnt listen to me though! I told him not to buy a POS FORD!!!!!!!!

This one was dark colored. Must have been a bad day to drive an Explorer.

haha, i sheared the bolts holding the driveshaft to the rear diff in my turbo miata

i replaced them with grade-8 fasteners

the guy who bought the car from me then tore the rear axles and subframe out of the car, flailed it around knocking holes through the gas tank, and dragged most of the drivetrain down the road under the car.

he emailed me and told me what happened...i was like "duuuude, that sucks. i'm really sorry to hear that."

he was like "Eh, shit happens when you triple the horsepower!"

True.
