Just an old habit I got into living in the dorms and trying not to wake my room mate up.

sometimes whole conversations are changed when I misunderstand what they were saying.

Also not every subtitle script is created equal. some are off bigtime

^yeah, i noticed i have been doing that too on GTAIV. I turned subtitles on to help understand the story and now i focus more on that than the graphics and character details

I'm playing with subtitles off but I think if I play through again I'll turn them on.

Of course I don't understand anything they say when they speak in other languages, and I can barely understand Jacob, so there are probably a lot of things I missed.
