Got mine today! But was confused about why i only received $300. I filed as independent single and paid over $1500 in federal taxes in the year 2007 as well as $1100 in medicare/social security.

Actually i did some digging and discovered that since my income will increase once i start my new job in Aug; I will actually get the additional $300 with my 09 tax return. The gov't bases teh checks on my 07 income but its supposed to be an early rebate on your 08 income. Since i only had a tax liability of $150 after i filed my income taxes i thus only got the minimum; but since my 08 income will include a much higher tax liability i will be allowed to get my full $600 upon filing taxes next spring.

soon youll be paying that much tax in a paycheck..then youll REALLY follow politics. I got another letter telling me how much Ill be getting from the govt. Stop sending letters already. How much is wasted on those letters?

^^ well, the IRS did say that if you owed any back taxes or anything like that, they would take it out of your stimulus check. I got mine deposited back on the 9th, but never received a letter from the IRS saying when to expect it. [Edited on May 16, 2008 at 6:18 PM. Reason : .]
5/16/2008 6:17:18 PM
i only got 300...oh well
5/16/2008 10:09:01 PM
same here, what's that all about
5/16/2008 10:18:09 PM
still waiting on mine
5/16/2008 10:30:15 PM
^^I read up on that this morning. Apparently you had to have over $600 in Tax Liability to get the full refund. That's NOT what you paid in taxes, or what you got back, or anything like that. It's completely separate. If you filed a 1040, it's likes 57 and 52 added together. Since that number was $0 for me, I get the minimum $300 back, even though I made more than $12k and less than $75k and paid a ton of taxes for last year.

This might clear some shit up.I got this from Turbo Tax today:Dear Valued Customer, We want to provide you with the most up–to–date information about the tax rebate to which you may be entitled. Recently, you may have received a letter from the IRS advising you when to expect your Economic Stimulus Payment (rebate). That IRS letter may have inadvertently left off some important information. Taxpayers who chose to have their tax preparation fees deducted from their federal tax refund will receive their tax rebate in the mail, not via direct deposit. Our records show that you chose this payment option in TurboTax. As a result, the IRS has determined that you will receive your tax rebate in the mail. This may result in you receiving your rebate on a date later than expected. This situation, while not unique to TurboTax, is understandably causing some concern and confusion. To help further clarify the situation, below is the most current IRS rebate payment processing schedule, as well as additional resources about the tax rebates. I hope you find this information helpful. If you still have questions, the best source for the most up-to-date information is http://www.irs.gov (see the "Rebate Payment Questions" link). Sincerely,Bob MeighanVice President, TurboTax Customer Advocacy weird.
