The old thread was stale.

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it. The editing and CGI are quite impressive.

Simply put, if you don't smile while watching Speed Racer, you have no soul.

It look like someone took a lame 30 year old anime cartoon and made it into a CGI movie....

oh wait

I really thought this entire movie was CGI about thirty seconds in to the preview, I figured the actors were generated ala shrek or toy story until I recognized emile

I have no desire to see this one. Not to even rent it. Or see it on cable.

seriously, if you enjoyed the cartoon in the slightest -- which I imagine most '80s and '90s kids did not -- then you should this this.

It was a lot of fun and very faithful to the series.

And to catch the question before it's asked, I'm 26 so yeah I'm an '80s/'90s kid; but my bro was born in the early '70s and really got me into this when I was growing up.

I've got a friend that watched this on opening day. He's done nothing but talk about how awesome it is ever since. After seeing the commercials I couldn't imagine sitting through it. Not even for free.

I guess it's a movie you'll either love or hate. As for me, the trailer and commercials were so bad that I don't even feel like giving it the chance.

As a movie it was decent. It was really drawn out at times but it did a good job of telling the story of Speed Racer and Racer X. This was hands down one of the prettiest movies I've seen in a very long time.

I love it when people decide who possesses a "soul," based on their reaction to a poor movie.

It's possible that I may illegally download this movie at some point just to see how bad it is and have no qualms about doing so.

yeah, i gave this movie a "rent it".
wasn't really anything special.

It looked pretty, and the ending was kinda cool.
Doesn't make up for incredibly lame jokes and Speed's super annoying little brother.

Seems like one would get the same experience by just skipping the movie and waiting for the inevitable video game.

Friend of mine watched it online and said it was alright, but I saw the previews and knew immediately I didn't want to see this movie.

Plus the fact that it only made 20 million opening weekend and almost got beat by that new Ashton Kutcher movie lets me know that most of America didn't want to see it either, haha. Also pretty much assures it won't meet it's budget.

I'm gonna watch it this coming weekend with the full expectation it will be cheesy (the cartoon was too), mainly cause I'm a sucker for racing movies.

why does no one get it?

The point of this movie is to get stoned out of your mind...or high...whatever floats your boat.... and go watch this movie.

If you watch this movie sober.....then you are lame.

i have heard nothing but terrible things about this movie from the few people I know who have seen it. The only positive was the visuals to some extent.

I had no intention to see this movie anyways though.

that's what I've been saying.

the only reason this movie is getting poor reviews is because everyone wanted it to fail.

ever since Matrix Reloaded, critics have panned the Wachowski brothers and have wished failure on every project.

even V for Vendetta was criticized unfairly, and that shit was better than its source.

v for vendetta has a 72% on rotten tomato

speed racer has a 35%

It doesn't mean that you can't like the movie, but it does mean that alot of people didn't like it.

I know I looked it up.

But I remember when V came out, most people were hating that movie.

I was pretty shocked when I looked it up on RottenTomatoes.

^^ im not as snobby as some people about movies, but I'm certainly not going to lower my standards or attempt to alter what I enjoy simply to enjoy a sub par movie. Not even talking about this movie specifically because I haven't seen it.

^thats not what i mean....(although admittedly that is what i said )

its no iron man but its entertaining none the less

whoa whoa whoa. Unless I'm understanding you wrong, you thought V For Vendetta the movie was better than the Alan Moore book? You sir, are crazy. The movie was good though, I'll give it that. (V that is)

I wasn't a hug fan of the graphic novel.

I thought the film was more interesting.

They stuck true to the cartoon. It was campy and I knew that going in.

So here's the question: if I almost walked out of Moulin Rouge because of the editing, am I going to hate this?
