A friend of mine got her factory rims stolen. Yeah go figure factory rims!!! Anyway, she parks her car in a garage at her complex. Some how somebody got in, jacked her car up and snatched her rims. She has renters insurance which covers anything inside the apartment and inside the garage. She also can full coverage auto insurance. Which one does she file the claim with??

Don't file.Buy some aftermarket wheels.Profit.P.S. Insurance is designed for emergency situations or complete loses. Not so you can get new rims everytime they're stolen. Or get your window crack fixed. Or remove those nasty dings. By claiming anything under $1,000, you're only screwing yourself and other insurance payers in the long run.

she called dealer and her IS350 rims are $850 a piece!!! plus $200 a piece tires. Thats over $4000 worth of stuff, I dont think she is finacially able to just swallow that.

Like I said, get some nice aftermarket ones and profit. There are are incredible deals out there for under $1,000. The dealership is there to rip you new holes. They'll sell you a stick of used gum for $5. What'd you expect? If she claims $4,000 ... she's going to hate herself for the next 5 years. Premiums baby. Trust me. I've done it before. Learned my lesson. If she doesn't want to get aftermarket, she can purchase some used ones on ebay. They're going for $199-$499 + shipping. Much cheaper than the stealership.[Edited on May 9, 2008 at 9:41 AM. Reason : ebaylicious]

if she uses her renter insurance her auto insurance wont go up.Im not sure how that works. Seems like double coverage

With comprehensive claims, such as theft, the premiums should not go up.When my car was broken into the insurance paid out over $5k and it did not effect me personally at all.

renters insurance covers everything on the property, i had tools stolen out of my truck with only liability and renters insurance covered it
