This is the first time I've voted since the last Presidential election. I really want to keep on top of things more, especially now that I'm a little more settled down. Anyhow, did you vote yet?

5/6/2008 9:44:32 AM
got to my site on Buck Jones at 6:25 and there was about 20 people in line already, and about 40 by 6:30 when they opened the doors. There is going to be crazy turnout numbers for this. They said on the radio this morning that there was already a record-setting 470k early-voters - 70k repulicans, 70k unaffiliated, and the rest democrats
5/6/2008 10:03:36 AM
yeah, I think I got to my polling place around 820... by 840 the parking lot was packed and cars were lining up... who knew it could be so exciting
5/6/2008 10:19:02 AM
I voted the first day of early voting.
5/6/2008 10:22:18 AM
Going as soon as the lady gets off of work.
5/6/2008 10:23:15 AM
I voted!!! I love voting...
5/6/2008 10:25:03 AM
I thought about going before work, but I was expecting there to be a lot of people, so I wasn't sure if I'd get done in time to be at work by 8. So, I'll just go after work and wait however long it takes.
5/6/2008 10:26:32 AM
I voted last week
5/6/2008 10:26:49 AM
yup
5/6/2008 10:29:56 AM
Voted Early for:Pres: Obama. Better than Hillary, a lot better than McCain. Of the 3 left in the race for president, this guy feels the least divisive which is something we could use after Bush. Gov: Perdue. A lesser of two evils sort of thing. Not that anyone in that race is evil. I just never got excited by either candidate.Lt Gov: Besse. Strong on environmental concerns. And when I met him he told me he's pro gay marriage.US Sen: Neal. Business experience to handle the economy, and he wants to get us out of Iraq sooner rather than later instead of starting new initiatives like diplomatic surges now. Any democrat in this race is better than Dole. But since he was the first to jump in when others were backing off (1 even made public statements that she wouldn't run only to flip on that later)State Treasurer: Janet Cowell. I've heard her speak before and she seems pretty intelligent.Except for Perdue, I've either met, or atleast heard them speak in person everyone I voted for on that list.I'll be on The State of Things live at Noon if anyone wants to tune in and hear me explain why I support these people in more detail. (or wunc.org & click the listen now option)Also check out this facebook group:http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=15887256639&ref=tsI'm considering a run for office in a year or two, and am getting things started now. Keep in mind that while my "top issues" are probably left of center, this will probably materialize as a town or county position run in chapel hill/orange county so it'll play alright there. Plus wouldn't it be cool having an NCSU alumni running Chapel Hill. [Edited on May 6, 2008 at 10:54 AM. Reason : .]

5/6/2008 11:51:16 AM
by telling the people at the door youre glad to throw even more of your money at the government for bad ideas than we already do.
5/6/2008 11:53:23 AM
5/6/2008 11:57:31 AM
^ nah...my girlfriend's mom reserved a ticket and I can guarantee she didn't pay a damn thing. Although I do not know exactly how she got it, I'm as sure as a person can be she didn't pay for it.
5/6/2008 12:37:51 PM

5/6/2008 12:40:15 PM

5/6/2008 12:44:13 PM
TO GET TICKETS TO THE OBAMA RALLY:Just go to barackobama.com and request a ticket. They email you your ticket. It's not a huge deal, but you have to have a ticket to get in. No money or support needed.
5/6/2008 12:48:38 PM
I went at 10 today, and was #111 at my precinct (Iron Station, NC).For those of you in Gastonia, there is a guy on Franklin and New Hope holding the 10 Commandments, along with a picture of an aborted baby, with a sign that says:"Hillary (Jezebel) is for abortion."Classy people.
5/6/2008 12:58:22 PM
And all these polls saying Clinton/Obama supporters will vote for McCain if the other is nominated...Does anyone actually believe that?If you're a Democrat, and you support one candidate, but the other is the nominee, you'd REALLY vote for McCain instead?I just can't imagine that's actually true. Don't you think Democrats are going to vote for the Democratic nominee at the end of the day instead of the Republican?
5/6/2008 1:29:01 PM
I believe so. As there are a lot of moderate democrats or fringe voters that just don't like hillary. Also there is a lot of obama haters and enough racist people in this country that will not vote obama even though they are democrat simply b.c he is black. I believe the latter is true espicially in the south. My grandma was born and raised in the country outside of Charlotte NC; is a southern democratic christian socially conservative woman. I know for a fact that she would not vote for obama. This is just the mindset to which she was raised in; early/mid 20th century southern rurual america. After all it is fairly common for southern democrats to have enough numbers to continualy vote in democratic governors/mayors/state legislatures. Yet they ALWAYS vote republican for president.[Edited on May 6, 2008 at 1:36 PM. Reason : a]
5/6/2008 1:33:03 PM
you'd intuitively expect most Dems to vote for whoever is the Democratic candidatebut you also have some other people who completely loathe Obama or Clinton who say they'd rather vote for McCain than Clinton/Obama if their candidate doesn't get the nominationIts funny how Obama supporters who say they'd rather vote for McCain over Clinton if she gets the nomination are the same people who loved Hillary and her husband throughout the 1990s...now they hate her...lol politics]
5/6/2008 1:36:11 PM
I voted! Number 867 at my polling place here in Raleigh at 10:45 this morning - glad to see there are people coming out and trying to have their voice heard.
5/6/2008 1:39:59 PM
I went at 1130 and it was 6 old folks and myself.Funny, though, that Dems have a monopoly on campaigning outside the polling places I checked out (curious, after going to mine).I got a dozen or so people imploring me to vote for Josh Stein, or Jack Nichols, Obama, et al.I just had to make a group announcement - "None of those people will even be on my ballot."Most of them had no idea what I meant, but after a few seconds they all got this look that said, "You're a Republican?" It was pretty funny.
5/6/2008 1:41:06 PM
arent there laws about minimum distance you can campaign outside a polling place?
5/6/2008 1:45:02 PM
^^ haha I'll have to try that next time.
5/6/2008 1:59:36 PM
Just got back from voting. #679 plus about 400 more from early voting (according to the lady).
5/6/2008 2:13:00 PM

voted around 3:30 PM at Method Community Center. No clue what number I was, place wasn't packed but there was a steady flow of people in/out. I had to fill out an "Unauthorized Move" or something form since I never bothered to transfer my registration from my old district, but they let me vote once i did that, not too painful a process. So Obama is actually going to be at Reynolds tonight? Wow.
5/6/2008 4:51:15 PM
5/6/2008 4:58:54 PM
