I am not even kidding here, this blows my mind:

I got a call from a number not in my phone, random area code I didn't notice... naturally, it went to voicemail.

Checked my voicemail and had a message from "Hi, I'm a volunteer for Senator Barack Obama and I am calling to see who you are voting for..." (this is where I deleted it).

So I call the number back to ask politely to be removed from their calling list... I mean dang, it's my cell phone and I have NO idea how they got my number, and it's the girl's personal cell phone!!

NOT EVEN KIDDING.

Anyone else had some crazy politics stuff happen like this today? Should I call her back and tell her to get a new hobby? Maybe volunteer to cure cancer instead?

Why don't you go see your fucking therapist about it?

Are you really that vain to be so insulted that somebody got your cell phone number? Delete the message and get over it. 'Doesn't require a 9023840923409 word explanation.

I'm not that vain, I just think it's incredibly odd. I've never heard of anything like this before. Yeah, I've heard of people getting calls on their home phones from campaign offices, but to me... this is politics on a whole new level.

PS - ^ Don't be a prick. I'm just sharing my political experience of the day since it's all the buzz anyways today.

This was originally in the Lounge.

This is the type of behavior I'd expect from Chit Chat

NOT THE BELOVED LOUNGE

I got one of these calls. As soon as I heard "Obama" I told her I was not interested and hung up ASAP. I was hoping I'd get a call from my doctor, makes it even more annoying.

Hahaha, I just got a call from one of these people and she was like "Hi I'm calling for Avery, is she there?"

I wasn't very nice after that. :/

The name can go either way, but when a guy answers the phone you say "Hi, I'm calling for Avery about Barack Obamas annoyance campaign?".

This is a whole new form of annoyance. I'm putting it on a level with TWC calling me up asking if I want to give them more money for more shit I don't need.

the voicemail was from a woman for the OBAMA campaign, and i was like "what the fuck is this shit???"

it pisses me off that they called my cellphone, i wish i knew how to keep them from doing that

I use Verizon, and my call was from the 703 area code. I think Barack Obama's website has the tools ON HIS SITE to let you sign up and be a campaigner from anywhere as long as you've got a phone and internet access. Basically turns your computer into a little call center for him I think. You'll get calls from random people all over the place (I think).

^^ hillary has the same thing (and i'm assuming mccain has something similar)

most likely you are getting calls for 2 reasons
1) you have signed up on some sheet somewhere (or online). go to any events for the candidate? sign-up for their website? that "in her record that i was a student" definitely seems like you signed up for something
2) you have a crazy friend who pimped you out (which is not that cool, but it happens)

for a while hillary was using the activate system (i think that's what its called) where volunteers would call into a number, the number would then call them back and they would be in this huge call management system. it was actually pretty cool. after the person hung up you would punch in a number corresponding to their response in your phone and then they would drop you into que for a new call. it should be noted that i hate phone banking with a passion, but this made it remarkably easier.

so two funny stories from the activate system

1) so because this system would call people for you, it actually showed up on people's caller id's as "Hillary Clinton" with a 202 area code number which confused way more than a few backwoods people from south east redneckville georgia.

2) one of the response options in activiate is "non-english speaker, call back with a spanish speaking volunteer". this quickly became my default response for any rude people

I know I didn't sign up for shit, and my friends don't sign me up for crap like that. If they did they'd be like LOL I SIGNED YOU UP FOR BARACK OBAMA STUFF LOLOLOL right after they did it.

I think our personal data is being sold by the university or mined from the student directory.

I know for a fact the phone # they called me at is not the one I used when registering to vote. I'm definitely guessing it's coming from the NCSU database somehow.

i've been getting calls from pro-clinton automated message systems and pro-obama volunteers on my cell phone (which i didn't give out). several times.

i'm about to start telling them to fuck off. once you call me once, you shouldn't call again, especially on an unlisted number.

i too, got a call from an obama supporter.

I talked to her for 30min just trying to irritate her and waste her time. Well, turns out she's unemployed and doing this because she " believes " in him.

This is why I only check my voicemail twice a day. (unless I am expecting something important)

9/10 of voicemails are not even relevant let alone time sensitive.

I finally got everyone at work trained to e-mail me anything time sensitive so it will come up on my BlackBerry.

^^^ Actually this lady said directly she wanted to see if there was any information I could be given that would make me vote for Barack Obama.

If I get any more calls that start off like that I'm just going to hang up. I normally don't like being a dick, but having a bunch of idiots waste my cellphone minutes isn't my cup of tea.
