what is their problem? i just don't understand how little kids (and even older teenagers) can be afraid dogs. especially when it's a 25# mutt on a leash. [Edited on May 2, 2008 at 9:05 AM. Reason : example]

I was attacked by a rottweiler when I was in middle school. It wasn't until I was a junior in high school that I started feeling comfortable around dogs again.

One time when I was ~12 we had a garage sale and this big, strong looking guy walked up, but then my neighbor's dog playfully ran toward him and he flipped out and ran back to his car and motioned that we needed to make sure the dog was securely put away. It was weird. I don't get how people can be scared of friendly dogs either.

i guess the kicker is that my dog is SCARED of strangers, even children. she gives them a wide berth and cringes/runs if they reach out for her.

The dog I had growing up layed in to this wierd old guys leg for walking in our yard when my sister was out there playing. She was only half German shepherd and the other half yellow lab I think. They made us leave her in quarantine for a week despite the fact that the guy clearly provoked her by keeping coming toward my sister when the dog was growling. If I ever have any daughters I am gonna get two full blood German shepherds.

My mom has a fear of dogs because she was brutally attacked by a dog as a young child. She is generally okay around dogs she knows, but any other dogs she freaks out and wont go near them.

don't get me wrong. i know people are bitten by dogs or in some way attacked and no longer trust them. but when it's a smaller dog on a leash who isn't trying to go near you, i don't understand. i mean, she tends to look at people pretty intensely (and will sometime start to "boof" and stick her hair up), but she does it because she's afraid of them. if they were to make any movement toward her, she'd haul ass the other way. she's been living in this complex for 2 years (since she was 3 months old) and i think part of her "bad behavior" toward strangers is due to all this tension and avoidance she experiences whenever she's near them.

Black people and Middle Easterners: Scared shitless of dogs. Even my black lab. Granted He's 100 pounds of fur and muscle, but he's also about as dangerous as a toddler.

a Kitty B thread about a pet?? no way!

i will admit. everyone who has run from my dog has been black. the hispanics don't seem to mind her. and in return she tends to bark at anyone with "dark" skin.

stop raising your dog to be racist, Kitty B

you know what else makes little kids scream in terror?
5/2/2008 10:38:41 AM
I'm not saying anyone should be scared of that dog, but the thing is, if a little dog starts nipping at you and being annoying you can't do anything but try to shove it away. If you just hauled off and booted the fucker everyone would be horrified and you would probably feel bad.

I see nothing wrong with a pet that repels kids, teenagers, and black people.

my dog is racist actually, wait, she isn't. she also targets white people with dark clothes or hats.
