has anyone had their DVR box upgraded yet?I had the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 box, and the upgrade bricked my box. It actually worked for a few hours, but the upgrade deleted all my previous recordings, and scheduled recordings. The DVR wouldnt even let me rewind live TV, it said the box was full and couldnt record, but it reported 0% full I got my bricked 8000 swapped out today for an Explorer 8300, without the new Navigator

I've heard a lot of bad things with Navigator. If you're curious, read some of the threads on AVSforum.com.Don't worry, your 8300 will have the new firmware downloaded to it soon enough.

my 8300 got the new navigator. I must say it's a lot better for some things. I can now finally set the video output to 720p instead of it being locked to 1080i. the interface for some of the settings however is annoying and not layed out well at all. ie: power on channel under display settings??

^^i haven't got the update yet but i'm dreading it. that's why i'm doing message_topic.aspx?topic=524493

^^I could set it to 720p with the old software if I wanted to.Navigator is beyond awful. Ive luckily only had it freeze and reboot on me once, and havent lost any recordings, but its all the little things they changed from Passport that annoy me. The only good thing about it is that you can group your favorite channels together in the guide.Since Im moving within the month to a place where I can install a dish, I will be doing that. Just having a hard time deciding between better equipment (Dish) and more HD channels (DirecTV).

it's times (and threads) like these that make me glad i don't pay large amounts of money for shit that doesn't work anyway

Welcome to Crapigator. Complaints are endless with it. Read on the AVSforum for more info.
5/3/2008 12:42:22 PM
now there's less program informationthey don't seem to be giving directors anymoreyay
5/3/2008 3:17:28 PM
Yea ours I think it is a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8500 has rebooted many times when deleting content from the DVR.
5/5/2008 9:49:39 AM
my SA8300HD is scheduled to be auto-updated tomorrowRIP TWC
5/5/2008 9:20:44 PM
we talked about this earlier tonight but the new way to fast-foward 15 minute increments is beyond dumb
5/5/2008 9:49:14 PM
i'm scared.... mine has a 500 gig drive connected
5/5/2008 9:54:50 PM
5/5/2008 10:02:52 PM
they left me an automated voicemail over the weekend
5/5/2008 10:30:50 PM
Jesus Christ, even with my shitty experience I expected TWC to have their DVR's passable by now. I wonder if I'll ever be able to consider them a viable option.Ah well, netflix (with instant viewing) and hulu get me most of what I'm interested in.

5/6/2008 12:46:03 AM
Make sure you disconnect your external drive or the DVR will lock up after 3hrs of inactivity. The work around is to continuously record something at a low priority.
5/6/2008 6:50:24 AM
Fuck.
5/6/2008 8:21:09 AM
shit... really ? mine is updated and appears to be working thus far.... looks like shit though
5/6/2008 5:19:41 PM
let me know when anybody gets "set top was unable to record program"that is the #1 most annoying thing about the upgrade
5/6/2008 5:21:53 PM
5/6/2008 9:36:40 PM
Hold fast forward for a few seconds to jump 15min. Frame by frame, IIRC you have to pause first and then use rr/ff.
5/7/2008 8:38:30 AM
thanksso just use the regular FF and RW buttons instead of using the Left/Right arrows at the top.
5/7/2008 9:01:53 AM
message_topic.aspx?topic=488437 btw
5/7/2008 11:26:24 PM
Mine rebooted while recording Reaper the other night...I dont think Passport ever did that to me.
5/8/2008 3:02:15 AM
5/8/2008 3:22:38 AM
^I think it can also be set to show only favorites, which is why it wouldn't be showing all the channels.
5/8/2008 3:27:27 AM
yeah, i figured that out last night i had it on sort by favorites first.
5/8/2008 9:38:40 AM
so the new List doesn't show how long until something will be deleted? it just shows a red icon???
5/8/2008 10:42:44 AM
thats all i can figure out. i hate not knowing how much time i have left before it goes and auto deletes my shit
5/8/2008 10:43:32 AM
it's weird...i thought there would be an update, but evidently, when i picked my box up in september, it already had the update on it. i thought it blew all along compared to my old one, but were there some versions out before the mass upgrade?it's an 8300hd.
5/8/2008 11:00:56 AM
If you have a SA 8300HDC, I think you got Navigator all along. Now they are releasing it to non-cablecard boxes I think. Anyone having luck with an external HDD in Navigator? The version I had about a month ago was not compatible after 3hrs on inactivity. Any luck now?
5/8/2008 2:40:48 PM
Ours stopped recording certain shows and started recording others after the upgrade. It started recording Star Trek: Voyager, which neither I nor my roommate told it to do. It also recorded a Girls Gone Wild infomercial, completely unprompted. [Edited on May 8, 2008 at 2:52 PM. Reason : t]
5/8/2008 2:52:10 PM
no wonder i've hated this thing for so long....i've been stuck with this upgrade since september
5/8/2008 3:01:20 PM
i just got the upgrade a couple days ago.Everything is basically ok, except i can't get the box to send my TV the native channel format and let my TV do the aspect ratio handling like before. For example, now it sends my TV 4:3 content in 'widescreen' format w/ its own added side bars. Before it would send the 4:3 and i'd let my TV handle it w/ a 4:3 expander, etc. Any ideas?
5/8/2008 3:39:29 PM
5/8/2008 3:50:55 PM
thanks, nothing22
5/8/2008 4:12:40 PM
I got the dreaded phone call, "24 hours till we fuck up your new box with the Navigator software"
5/19/2008 2:53:50 PM
the big reason i was staying with TWC was their DVR interface. i'm gonna start exploring the dish options...is theirs any better (than the old, and new TWC)?
5/19/2008 2:54:52 PM
dude its ugly but it works better.. my hd movies skip less and i can rewind/fast forward live tv which with my added 500gigs it wouldn't let me do anymore.
5/19/2008 3:10:11 PM
oh so you still use the external with it...and it works fine?one thing i've noticed is when you are on the list menu, and you try to scroll up and down, its actually scrolling up and down the guide...and you have to exit out of the list and reenter to get it to scroll the list
5/19/2008 3:18:07 PM
Yeah mine does that randomly too i forget why though.. but yeah my 16 hd recorded movies are still there and working fine.. it actually recovered some deleted files when it switched over i had to re-delete nameless files
5/19/2008 3:32:52 PM
Now I'm getting "Channel Not Available" recording errors! I love this box so much. Our signal strength seems low, so I guess I will have to call TWC again.
5/24/2008 8:31:09 AM
This is the worst fucking software in the universe.Since the last software updates, anytime I change channels, I have had to turn the DVR off and then on again to get the picture from the new channel (guide and everything works fine, but no TV). Tonight, this has stopped working. I can watch shows that are recording right now, but I can't watch live TV, no matter what I try. Before that, tech support instructed me to unplug and reset my box "every couple of weeks" to prevent a bug that was causing audio and video interruptions.[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 10:18 PM. Reason : PS I have an 8240]
5/27/2008 10:16:14 PM
does anyone know if the new navigator is being pushed to non-dvr boxes? i have digital cable but no DVR (the Explorer 3250).
5/27/2008 10:33:56 PM
that sucks yall mine has been rocking the effin house
5/28/2008 1:18:57 AM
it's too bad we can't even get satellite because of trees, because the new interface is terrible.I can't imagine how TWC didn't realize all these glaringly bad choices before finalizing this software . I hope theyre working on a fix.
5/28/2008 1:34:47 AM
fear, change, bad!QQall I've seen are differences, but not gaps in functionality. there are some minor bugs, but none critical. this is reminiscent of the office2k7 ribbon. everyone hates it at first because they hate change, then they love it.
