I got a PS3 yesterday and was trying to set it up on my TV. I have a 60" Sony Grand Wega w/SXRD 1080p with 2 HDMI inputs. I set everything up and it works ok but there is one thing I can't figure out. When I go to configure the settings, the maximum resolution the PS3 can find is 1080i. I tried to go and enter it manually, and it does that whole 30 seconds of blank TV then goes back to the previous setting. It made me wonder if I actually bought a 1080p television.

I went back and double checked my receipt on the TV, it was 1080p.

The only thing that could possibly be a problem is my HDMI cables. Is it possible that my cables could be possibly damaged somehow or maybe only allow up to 1080i resolution and not offer 1080p? It's just weird and doesn't make any sense, and it kinda makes me feel crappy cause I spent a lot of money yesterday buying that system only to find out I can't get the maximum resolution I paid for.

any thoughts?? Thanks

My TV has 2 DVI ports and an HDMI port, but only the 2 DVI ports output at 1080p. The HDMI port outputs at 1080i. Check your TV's manual and make sure that your ports are outputting what you think they are.

thanks, ill check that when i get home.

I just called tweeters and they said it could be because the model is from 2006 that it only has a scan rate of 1080p but it doesn't actually accept 1080p signals from outside sources, it just upgrades them once it gets to the TV itself. He then recommend just using 720p cause he says its better than 1080i

also, check the TV's model. Not just the receipt. There is the slight chance the receipt is a misprint OR they gave you the wrong tv.

Yeah, the first run of SXRDs could only accept 1080i signals. In fact, most of the first generation 1080p displays could only take up to a 1080i signal. I wouldn't worry too much about it, the PS3 will output most games at 720p anyway and those TVs have pretty good scalars. You're not missing out on much, if anything at all.

And hey even if it did accept 1080p, it'd just overscan the hell out of it anyway!
