So the fiancee and I may be moving to Munich so he can work for BMW. I speak no german, so I was wondering...how hard will it be for me to find a job over there?

Not all that hard. A TON of people in my family are actually going over there this fall. You need to research the policies and procedures, but it should be perfectly doable.I mean this is Germany we're talking about here.

Many people speak English, but you will be looked down upon if you do not learn German in a reasonable amount of time. You will "wear out your welcome" and people will start speaking German more and more around you.

Yeah they typically have to take either french or English from a very early time in school and practically all know plenty of English. i was there with some military guys a year or two ago and even though they could speak a reasonable amount of German, it was still easier for the Germans to just speak English

My brother got married in Germany and moved there to live with his wife who's German. He spoke 0 german and her entire family spoke 0 english. He was required to take a crash course in German by the government to get his work permit/visa and residence status. I think it was something along the lines of a few hundred hours or so. He's now fluent in German. He also didn't have much trouble finding a job, it was a great way for him to practice also in a professional environment. You won't have as much trouble as him though in Munich because they do speak English there. Where he lives very few people speak english and those that do chose not to.[Edited on April 28, 2008 at 10:40 AM. Reason : w]
