for the non motorcycle/ garage regular:SV650 is a GREAT BEGINNER BIKE~70 hp ~110mph top speed- handles well in the twisties, very fun to ride[Edited on April 23, 2008 at 2:40 PM. Reason : =]

^^^^ whaaaaat? an SV tops out at 110? i figured it would do at least 130 (indicated, anyway).[Edited on April 23, 2008 at 9:26 PM. Reason : asfd]
4/23/2008 9:25:37 PM
yeah it might be a little faster- i think the advertised indicated is like 126, iirc... and judging from the roadside radars the speedo is about 7-8 off at 55mph.
4/23/2008 9:39:42 PM
i'd rock an SV any day, but i do not want to invest into any vehicles at this time since i might be going out of the country for a year or two
4/23/2008 11:20:40 PM
that's me, too (except i'm definitely going out of the country for 6 months, and probably alternating every 6 months for the foreseeable future)

4/27/2008 1:23:22 PM
how comfortable would this thing be driving it to Durham (RTP area)?
4/27/2008 7:43:31 PM
from raleigh? I'd consider that a pretty short ride, I commuted last summer 36 miles one way and had no issues, but I am 5'6"/140#. honestly, i'd say comfort is in the eye of the beholder...I've heard of some who are fine on a race replica for a hundred miles at a time - I'd say it's completely dependent on a person's size/weight, their previous experience with riding, etc.summary: IMHO, <50 miles one way, piece of cake.
4/27/2008 9:05:28 PM
rough estimate on mpg?
4/27/2008 9:42:00 PM
I'm really interested... I've wanted a bike since I graduated, but I don't know. The way I drove my M3 probably isn't a good indication of how I would drive a bike -- not to mention, I'm not exactly the smallest person on earth, but I'll think about it...

4/29/2008 2:03:34 PM

5/12/2008 1:22:41 PM
Put it on Craigslist - you'll have much better luck there. I sold my 2000 SV on there just last week. I listed it for $3,000 and got at least 12 emails and several phone calls within a few days. Seriously, those bikes have a great reputation for fun and reliability, and people are willing to pay more than blue book value if the bike is in good condition.
