I just figured out how to do this so now I'm doing it for all the sites I run/edit/hostFor those who don't know, this basically refers to the small (16x16 pixel) icon that you upload to your webserver and it gets displayed on the link/address bar of your browser...kind of like the small wolf icon to the immediate left of the "http://..." in TWW's address (http://www.thewolfweb.com/favicon.ico)you can create a 16x16 icon and upload it to your root directory, and just add a little *link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico"* (replace asterisks with less than / greater than signs) to your page's header]

before creating the thread, maybe i shouldve searched for the topic since the search function works so well
4/21/2008 1:14:06 PM
lololwelcome to HTML, brother.
4/21/2008 1:15:05 PM
is this one of the most common tags or something?
4/21/2008 1:18:51 PM
im pretty sure it's been around since IE5
4/21/2008 1:23:44 PM
yeah i think IE5 was the first to support but I had to mess around a bit with the coding to get it to show up in both IE and FFoh well i thought it was cool]
4/21/2008 1:26:09 PM
[new] not because a thread has been made but because you could have posted omg you can use h1 to make huge bold headers! and we would have been equally impressed with this [new] concept.
4/21/2008 1:28:52 PM
then all the cool nerds could come in here and roll their eyes at me since they're so cool and so much better than everyone else
4/21/2008 1:30:07 PM
no worriesit is a feature that some sites don't implement.
4/21/2008 1:31:11 PM
4/21/2008 1:36:45 PM
headers showed up in internet explorer 3.0 and old versions of netscapelike back when i actually learned htmlfavicons didnt, but thanks for the half assed analogy glovecoremind me again wtf the point of tech talk is? to be a dickhead to somebody that knows less than you?]
4/21/2008 1:43:13 PM
It's not that they think they more than you. It's that a rabbit could figure out how to make a favicon if it wanted to. Did you really think you were telling people something they didn't know?Had you never noticed the favicon on all other sites and not wondered how it was done, only to then google it and see how easy it is? Because everyone else who cared has already done this.[Edited on April 21, 2008 at 1:46 PM. Reason : ]
4/21/2008 1:45:42 PM
shit just got real
4/21/2008 1:46:17 PM
so maybe you can tell me, whats the point of tech talk? cause there are a lot more basic/dumb things that get asked about in tech talk than an html feature thats only been around a few yearswhen somebody a lot less technically savvy than me asks a question about how to get a printer working or install a router, do yall just make fun of them and tell them how dumb they are?
4/21/2008 1:48:03 PM
4/21/2008 1:49:16 PM
people asking dumb questions? okpeople giving dumb tutorials? wtf
4/21/2008 1:52:39 PM
forgive me for learning something technology related and sharing with other people in tech talkhow fucking dare i
4/21/2008 1:53:31 PM
calm down man, it's not that big a deal. accept your flaming and move on
4/21/2008 1:54:20 PM
the most important thing i learned is that tech talk is a place for nerds to come and tell other people that they dont know shiti didnt realize that until now, but now i know
4/21/2008 1:56:17 PM
if you have something interesting or insightful to share, your thread will be well appreciated.you tried to teach us about favicon.
4/21/2008 1:57:16 PM
Parody thread inc?
4/21/2008 1:59:16 PM
4/21/2008 2:26:33 PM

4/21/2008 2:36:03 PM
take this other dumbass' advice, treetwister. ^
4/21/2008 2:38:08 PM
iamges.google.com yes the typo is correcti bet if you bought this domain you would get lots and lots of hitsor maybe gogole.com?i remember linux bought the domain 'microsfot.com' which seems pretty cleverany other similiar circumstances you guys know of?
4/21/2008 2:40:21 PM
^do you see the same thread we see?
4/21/2008 2:42:22 PM
he forgot the quote tags for that
4/21/2008 2:43:58 PM
sober46an3 beat me to it.
4/21/2008 2:48:58 PM
a) favicon's have been around since IE5 (circa 2000)b) how are you associated with web development and not noticed this feature yet? (it's been around for 8 years)c) yes, TWW's search is broken, has been for years, thank God there's Google

tech talk is a place for nerds to come and tell other people that they dont know shit
4/21/2008 3:28:04 PM
iamges.google.com
4/21/2008 4:00:50 PM
even tww uses this...that means it's old code
4/21/2008 4:06:11 PM
haha, i read it this way...
4/21/2008 4:07:27 PM
speaking of the aforementioned, why doesnt one of you brainiacs tell me why google hasnt setup a redirect where iamges.google.com automatically goes to images.google.com? any of you nerds figured that out in your spare time out of making fun of people who dont know as much as you?]
4/21/2008 4:17:35 PM
i bet if you bought iamges.google.com you would get lots and lots of hits
4/21/2008 4:18:42 PM
i guess only the biggest nerds still find that thread funny
4/21/2008 4:20:30 PM
4/21/2008 4:21:15 PM
i am definately a nerd
4/21/2008 4:21:34 PM
i just wonder how some of you act in real life when somebody asks you a question about computers...if you're a complete asshole to them like you are on tww, or if you actually take into consideration that everyone doesnt have the same expertise as you do...
4/21/2008 4:23:34 PM
how did you make that font big and bold like that?
4/21/2008 4:24:14 PM
i did our favicon when i did our company website at http://www.martininnovations.com [Edited on April 21, 2008 at 4:25 PM. Reason : .]
4/21/2008 4:24:33 PM
Think of it this way treetwista: if someone came up to you and said, "Hey man! I just found about this new thing called a joint. A joint is created by rolling up cannabis, either manually or with a rolling machine into a cigarette-like product. Standard sized papers for joints are 70mm (standard size), 79mm (1 & 1/4 size) , and 110mm (1 & 1/2 size)!"How would you react?
4/21/2008 4:30:45 PM
i still think yall are off on your analogiesrolling a joint = boldface, underline, italics, heading1, a href, img src, font, etcfavicon = maybe a gravity bong[Edited on April 21, 2008 at 4:40 PM. Reason : .]
4/21/2008 4:38:01 PM
thats probably because you think favicon is ground breaking news.
4/21/2008 4:40:31 PM
i never even implied that but ok
4/21/2008 4:41:28 PM
