Not impressed. (played it on the ps3 this weekend)

gripes:

1. No upgrade shop. You buy a car and thats it.
2. Not enough races. I beat class C in a matter of a few hours.

I'm playing through the A license now, so I'm not sure.

But I've heard you can upgrade after you get your licenses.

You get to do a "quick tune" after you get them all. You can't upgrade i don't think. It's just adjusting ride height, etc.

well then, I have no clue.

It is a Prologue though, not the full deal.

"Yamauchi himself said that GT5 Prologue will "ultimately reach an equivalent level to GT5." He also explained that the only difference between GT5 Prologue and GT5 is the number of cars and courses that can be accessed within the game.

Can we then expect that GT5 Prologue will have more features added to it in the future? We certainly can. In fact, judging by Yamauchi's words, we can expect GT5 Prologue to eventually grow into a full-blown game in it's own right. Demo? Nah."

I'm not surprised you don't like it if it took you a few hours to beat Class C.

That same shit happened to me! I bought a bunch of ricer mobiles then got to the Class A events and realized there were some that required american cars. The Z06 is fucking awesome though once you get it, so very powerful.

I did the same thing release day. I walked into gamestop and asked the guy if he had any left over copies of GT4...he was like 'uhhhh we have tons' lol

My thinking was that this game is just a preview of GT5, so why bother?

why spend the money on something thats just a fraction of what GT5 will be. I'd rather just wait I guess.

Or am I wrong about the game?

that's how I feel

I guess I've been kind of spoiled by the GT series, because 70 cars and 6 tracks seems like nothing.

^yep same here

It amazes me that a prologue to a game that will be out later this year is as popular as it is, especially at $40

The game looks fucking amazing. I figure why wait another year to get my hands on it. $40 over the course of a year is nothing.

$40 over the course of a year is nothing, sure, but $400 for the console is something indeed. That's what keeps me away, if I had a PS3 I'd have bought Prologue the day it came out.

$400 is more than fair for a next gen console. Definitely not a Wii but for an xbox or ps3 its more than justified in cost. You couldn't buy a decent gaming PC that allows you to watch hi-def movies for that much.

^True, true. Unfortunately I find myself in the situation of having recently needed to buy a couple of gifts, so my tax refund is going almost exclusively to credit card bills this year.

Maybe I can get my roommate to kick in some money with the blu-ray angle...

Just got this in the mail today:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/playstation_3/devices/4172&cl=us,en

It comes out sometime early next month.

I'll post my review as soon as I'm done with it.

^It's actually already out. I bought it last week @ a GameStop. However, Best Buy told me it hadn't been released yet either. So I don't know what the real deal is with it. All I know is that I bought one.

It works great. I've never actually bought a wheel before, but I've been a big fan on the GT series so I decided to go ahead and get one this go 'round.

hmmm, damned if the Gamestop Web site isn't selling it ...

That's interesting, b/c the press release I have says May 2008 and the wheel didn't even have any packaging.

how are you guys mounting this wheel?

In my room I have my ps3 on a tv stand and usually sit in a chair, on bed, floor, etc to play games. Even if i get this wheel, I havent yet figured out a way to mount it

we'd usually mount it to a wooden TV tray kept in the hall closet. Worked wonders.

^same, for the 360 wheel i had it mounted to a piece of wood and put it on my lap. Even though it came with a lap mount, it sucked because when you turn the wheel the entire base would move with you. Mounting it to a piece of wood makes a big difference.

Yeah thats what I do with my wheel. $10 or less at Bed Bath & Beyond

Is there any reason to upgrade wheels? I have the wheel for GT3. It has force feed back, paddles, and pedals. What else do you need?

the new wheel has things like changing brake bias on the fly etc...

That would make tuning a car a lot easier.

I think I would like the sequential shifter more actually, a little more realistic for the normal cars. You could at least upgrade to a sequential shifter a lot easier than the paddles.

The Driving Force GT does not have gear slots, it's pull back to shift up, and push forward the down shift.

I personally prefer the the paddles.

this was after the 20th try...Without a wheel i find it very difficult to complete certain races like the 'pass 16 cars in 1 lap'

^seems like you just need to get the braking down and you'll be set. you were flying by those other cars on the straights.

weird that it doesn't understeer when the front tires are howling for grip

yeah, being smooth is something i need to work on but for me at least, its near impossible with the controller. On the 360 i can be smooth but thats because i have a wheel.

Yeah those races are crazy hard. Honestly i think you need a little luck too to make it in the top 3... I'm stuck on one of those races with the ferrari F40 right now... i'm almost ready to give up.

it cant be THAT hard can it

the runs where i don't hit anything i don't finish better than 6th. I didn't hit the wall which is why i showed 2 views of it...i went up on the gator though. I did hit a car because the AI likes to jump right infront of you and it would slow me down more to swerve out of the way.

I still can't beat the Mercedes Challenge in GT4 where you have to lap all the SL's with the SLR on one lap of the Nurburgring, grr.

lol

Yeah, that one was tough. I couldn't beat it until I turned off all the assists, the traction control was too conservative and slowed me down too much going through the curves.

The RSX race, not ^

^yeah i tried it with all assists off first couldn't beat it. so then i turned everything on and the car is so much slower, you can't power your way through turns at all. So the only way to do it i think is with all assists off.
