I'm used to working long hours this time of the year, but I just broke my foot so I am going to have some free time. I am supposed to keep my foot elevated as much as possible so I have been watching a lot of movies.

I have recently watched:
AVP: Requiem
Charlie Wilson's War
Cloverfield
Dan in Real Life
Hitman
Into the Wild
No Country for Old Men

What other new releases are worth seeing, or what not so new releases or old movies should I watch.

You should watch Dawn of the Dead (both 78 and 04 versions) and High Fidelity. Scanner Darkly was OK, thankfully my wife is a huge sci-fi book geek and had to explain what was going on to me a few times though.

a scanner darkly sucked.

i haven't seen 3:10 to yuma, but i was completely infatuated with the assassination of jesse james. admittedly, it is long and slow moving, but everything about it is great. acting, directing, dialog, cinematography, soundtrack. it's all fantastic.

[Edited on April 20, 2008 at 10:12 PM. Reason : ^ /agree on high fidelity, a modern classic that one is.]

i feel guilty for wasting 2 hours watching a movie if i do it too often so i usually make sure i REALLY want to watch something before i do. since you have special doctor orders, i am going to throw out a big list which may contain some "dear lord, don't watch that" movies.

if you are drinking (or if you're not, i just prefer to be drunk with some of these)...
zoolander
shaun of the dead
from dusk til dawn
shoot em up
dumb and dumber
hot fuzz
i'm gonna git you sucka
the wall
heavy metal
spinal tap
harold and kumar (whitecastle, not that new shit)

action/suspense/adventure/etc...
the hunt for red october
boondock saints
the butterfly effect
the island
kill bill
v for vendetta
the first avp
the game
die hard series

comedy...
hmm, a lot of the comedies i would list are already in the drunk category.
grumpy(and grumpier) old men
caddyshack
ghostbusters
wedding crashers
old school
happy gilmore
billy madison
a fish called wanda
the mating habits of the earthbound human
hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
superbad

drama...
the green mile
juno
the door in the floor
shawshank redemption
the last castle
catch me if you can
hard candy
the weatherman

and finally...
the science of sleep (la science des reves, french). for some reason i can't remember if it's dubbed or subtitled or both. anyway, it was pretty good, check it out.

it's partially in english and partially in french, which is subtitled, iirc.

For everything besides romance (unless you count subtle ambiguously gay):

Lawrence of Arabia

plus its like four hours long, perfect for when you have time to kill.
