What am I doing wrong? I'm in horrible shape. I get winded easily and it seems like exercise isn't helping a bit. I went about 6 months rowing/running(whatever I felt like that day) a steady pace for at least 30 minutes a day and didn't notice a single bit of improvement. In fact, my heart rate would sky rocket further after the cardio than it was during.Help?[Edited on April 19, 2008 at 10:20 AM. Reason : ]

steady pace...for 30 minutes is your problemswitch up your cardioI'd recommend having at least 1 moderate interval day, 1 high-intensity interval day, and 1 steady state day (30-60 min. at a steady pace)Also, do you lift weights? Believe it or not, that will help to some degree.

son of a bitch And I just started with the weights. Going to be slow going, I can tell already

you need heart rate monitor

yeah. interval training is what will help.you gotta increase.its like lifting the same weight for 6 months.

Have your iron levels checked, you could be anemic. Like that time that I had some severe bleeding a week after donating a "double-red" to the red cross. If I vigorously biked from AFC to TOTA after that happened, I would feel like falling over and dying.

^ Yeah I'd say see your doc and get some numbers run. I realize 30 minutes isn't the longest period of time that a lot of people go running, but 6 months of that without improvement and having a weird heart rate after you exercise could DEFINITELY be a sign that there's something up with you (physically speaking).

ha, I actually wish that were the case. It'd explain some other things, too.I might break down and go next week.

Unless your diet is complete crap or you have a medical issue, there is no way that you are in horrible shape if you have been running 30 minutes a day (3-5 times a week) for 6 months.
