i guess the ones ive been watch are the next generation not the old ones that starred i guess the principal and snake and stuff

they are shown on the N and fox 50 but they are all out of order i like the characters and i think its cool that they follow these people as they age and stuff

do they have boxed sets and things?

they have box sets of degrassi junior high, degrassi high, and degrassi: the next generation

if you want to get a lot of the jokes/callback emotional moments from the new ones, you'll have to watch the originals

for instance, it means absolutely nothing when wheels shows up in tng if you don't know why he was gone

fucking great show, eh

yea ive been kinda realizin that lately

i hate feelin like im missing out its a pretty deep show

and when i say they are shown out of order, they wont even show two seperate episodes that are "to be continued" one after the other

its really weird, the first episode i ever seen was the one where JT gets killed, sadly it meant nothin to me

There seriously needs to be a support group for Degrassi, I get so DAMN sucked in to that show! I went up to upper New York and met some people who were deep into it, and I couldn't pull myself back out. It's like, I'll quite often spend a Friday night up past midnight with a bottle of Boone's Farm and Degrassi...and I'm 22, not 16. Go figure.
Craig FTW!

I have watched this a few times when i'm flipping through. I recently watched the hour long spring break episode. I was up late one night and it came on

I would watch every episode strictly for Manny and Darcy. even though the Darcy storyline needs to move on.

This show was my secret pleasure that I watched all the time. Took 6 years of my life but I can't seem to watch it anymore. Characters just aren't as good anymore now that they're in college. Here's a few of the eps from earlier seasons.

http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/television/Degrassi%3A_The_Next_Generation.html

They really lucked out that Emma became as hot as she did because you wouldn't know it from the beginning of the series. The show really started off with a bang when she was lured into a hotel room by a pedophile using an alias online. Oh, the memories...

BTW, all you need to know about the earlier series is Joey, Snake, Spike, and Catlin all went to degrassi for junior high/high school. Snake and Joey were friends and in a band together. Check out their sweet music video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nU2zvWsmMk

Joey and Catlin dated but fell apart somehow. Emma's mom (Spike?) got prego from a guy that eventually died from an acid trip (I think). Anyways, that's all I remember w/o looking it up.

Edit: One more thing, the principal from the beginning of the new series was the same principal when snake and everyone else were in school. Then they replaced him with a milf for an unknown reason.

Emma's dad is in a mental institution from hitting his head.
The old principal stepped down after the school shooting.

I am also obsessed with the show.

degrassi is so one of my secret pleasures. i used to watch it all the time, until i got rid of cable. i just recently got back into it, and started to buy all the seasons (i think the last full season i had seen was season 3 - manny gets preggers, then abortion, etc).

what i have found is that while there are box sets, they dont really stock them at best buy, you have to buy them online. season 5 i think (the one where jt gets shot) is due out in may

i do have the season 4 dvds and the one where jt starts selling drugs to support him and liberty made me cry, he was so good in it!

Extra points for using the word "fucking" on government-funded national broadcast television in 1992:

Excellent. I need my fucking FIX.
I like how they used Darcy last season. I really thought she was kind of a flat character for a while, but she grew on me as they used her more. And she was the perfect character to use in that whole blackout rape plot-line. Well done, all around.

So I ended up watching some music videos to fight off the insomnia, and that new song by Katy Perry, "I Kissed A Girl" comes on. I perk up, waiting for my hot lesbian action (and not getting it) but notice a very distinctive face in the background.

EMMA?!
Now I'm REALLY pissed I didn't get my hot lesbian action. *pouts*

it can get a little campy at times (see aftermath of JT's death), but overall its really well done. The actors being the same age as the characters really does make it that much better. Plus the fact that they don't shy away from truths such as premarital sex, stds, drugs, alcohol, skipping school, and everything that really does go on in the teen years is great.

it follows a handful that have graduated and moved on to college as well.

but yeah i get ya. I didn't think I'd like either, but a couple weekends off from drinking and a few hours of marathon later its a guilty pleasure. hahaha

i suppose it all depends on how dramatic your high school experience was

if you just kinda went and hung around and whatever, i could see being bored

but if it was a dramatically transformative period for you, shows like degrassi and freaks & geeks really hit the spot

My mom showed degrassi at her middle school in the early 90s and the superintendent ended up getting fired over it because the rednecks freaked out about kids learning about sex, gays, and drugs.

Rednecks.

Then you've basically seen every episode of DJH and DH. There's a lot of story recycling from the first series to TNG, but they're worthwhile updates and the Snake/Spike/Caitlin/Joey stuff adds a cool dimension. Plus, the sex ed episodes in all three series have Sue Johansen in them .
