since when did they get so pricey?! i am pissssed
4/17/2008 12:16:37 PM
they aren't all $50, it depends on what the ticket it for. They will waive certain ones if it is your first offense and you ask about it. Others like parking in a driving lane, they won't do anything for you.
4/17/2008 12:18:31 PM
depends what you did wrong to earn it...i also suspect they're still paying back the 4 million they owe the county and they decided it's not happening fast enough
4/17/2008 12:18:54 PM
"parked in a no parking area"which is untrue, i took a picture, i was parked perfectly legally. anyone ever have any luck contesting this shit?
4/17/2008 12:32:15 PM
They were a minimum of $40 when I lived on campus (97-00)...pretty surprised they are only $50 now.But yeah its bullshit they are so high.
4/17/2008 12:35:10 PM
4/17/2008 12:35:40 PM
riddick lot which is a total cluster fuck now because of all the construction... parking spaces are not clearly labeled there anyway REGARDLESSi was still legally parked
4/17/2008 12:38:14 PM
Only employees can park there if it's before 5pm. So unless you have a C permit, you gets t3h shit. The sign isn't around there, though. It's up at the top of the street.
4/17/2008 12:40:33 PM
where in the lot were you parked?
4/17/2008 12:40:38 PM
it was 6:30pm, and i was parked where everyone else was parked. in the parking lot
4/17/2008 12:42:39 PM
APPEAL'D. Go yell at them!
4/17/2008 12:44:21 PM
4/17/2008 12:47:09 PM
i've had 6 parking tickets on campus in...7 years? anyway, i've gotten two completely thrown out, 3 reduced to $5 fines, and one, which pissed the absolute hell out of me (specifically because of all the tickets i'd gotten, that one was the most valid for appeal) was kept as a $40 finedebbie beach isn't a total bitch (she's actually pretty fair), but she can still be annoying...every now and then she just up and decides she doesn't give a damn
4/17/2008 1:13:56 PM
Campus parking tickets have always been fairly pricey (price varies based on the offense), to deter people from illegally parking in the limited number of spots. NCSU doesn't even get the money from tickets. When I was as State, it was actually no more expensive to get a parking ticket from the City of Raleigh (on the streets off of Hillsborough) than to park in the daily parking garages. If parking tickets were only 5 bucks, do you think it would stop anyone from parking illegally on campus. You can appeal to Debbie Beach in Transportation, if she is still there. She can keep the fine as is, reduce it, or waive it. If you are unhappy with her decision, you have the right to appeal to the Parking Appeals Board, where you will present your case to 2 students and either a faculty/staff member. In my experience, Debbie Beach was pretty fair. On the rare occasions in which her review seemed out of whack with the case, it was usually because more information was presented after the initial appeal.Just never park in a handicapped spot, or you will owe texa$ and lose every appeal.[Edited on April 17, 2008 at 1:46 PM. don't come crying to us until its $100
4/17/2008 1:43:57 PM
thank you for all of the advice ^ and gee, since you're an opulent TKE alum, why don't you pay my $50 ticket. meanwhile, i'm a broke college kid, so throwing money down the drain isn't really my thing.
4/17/2008 2:12:24 PM
out of 3 or 4, i never got out of a single one, no warnings or anything...i was always pretty straight-laced... usually because of that exact thing.. get reamed the second i step out of line[Edited on April 17, 2008 at 2:40 PM. Reason : good luck tho, more power to you if you can get it appealed]

Yeah, I'm with that other guy that remembers when they were $40 about a decade ago. Heck, with inflation you're getting a much better deal than we got. I'm extremely surprised that it's not $100 by now.
4/17/2008 4:25:28 PM
I parked in DE at like 6:30pm when I thought it was a C zone (across from the gym on Morrill or w/e) and got a $40 ticket in like 10 minutes
4/17/2008 5:31:43 PM

lawlncsu transportation is a jokei was parked in a DE space in front of turlingtonyou know how there are those RD spaces intermingled with the DE spaceswell i parked in one... the RD sign was on the far left edge of the parking space with an arrow pointing to the left... any rational person would have thought that the space in question was a DE space, and the spaces to the left of it were RD spaces... that's what i thoughti came out to a $40 ticket... so i took pictures and wrote a nice appeal... they sent me a letter saying they'd reduce it to $20 but wouldn't dismiss it... basically, that says to me "yeah, you're right, but we still want SOME money."fuck them.on a side note, when i worked for the university, i saw some asshats from university housing park one of their red trucks in a handicap space at wolf village on the gorman st. side... i called up parking enforcement, they had a meter maid out there in like 2 minutes... i sat in the itd van and watched dude took like 4 pictures of the truck and the sign, then wrote the ticket... as he was putting it on their windshield, the housing employees come running out but he just ignores them$250 ticketi'm sure they had a nice little chat with their boss, lawlnormally i'm not an asshole about such things but people who park in handicap spaces w/o a permit and people who park in fire lanes really get on my nerves, and i'll do anything i can to make sure they don't do it again.
4/18/2008 8:08:46 AM
i thought they were only $10 your first time, and then like $15 after that unless you parked in an employee-only spot.
4/18/2008 8:12:17 AM
looks like your boyfriend has some splainin' to do
4/18/2008 8:15:04 AM
^^depends on the violation. parking outside your permit zone = $0 if it's your first offense of any kind, $40 otherwise
4/18/2008 8:16:37 AM
I have had 5 tickets here in 6 years. Appealed all of them. All appeals denied. All but one was $50.I had my friends pay for 4 of them.It would go something like: Me: there are no spots around hereThem: Just park at the end of the road, on that curb, or where ever. We will be back before it is even noticed.Me: If there is a ticket on my car, you are paying it.Them: Sure, but there won't be.Me: Fine, lets go.Then we come back 20 minutes laterMe: Haha, you guys owe me $50.Them: Why?Me: THere is a ticket on my windshield. I told you I shouldn't park there.Them: Damn it.Me: I told you so.
4/18/2008 9:03:18 AM
I got one when I was helping some friends move stuff for the shack-a-thon. I even parked fairly far out near Bragaw so I wouldn't be taking any priority spots. Regardless, I got ticketed. Appealed and was denied. Bitches never even offered to help me pay for the ticket.

when i was a sophmore (i think) my mom called me and proceeded to talk about the number of parking tickets sitting in front of her (i won't tell you the number, kinda embarrassing actually)i started laughing.mom did not.she asked what was so funny."it's like they know me mom. they saved me the cost of buying postage or gas and just went ahead a sent them to you."she laughed barely.then she asked "what in the hell have you been doing, joie?"****pause****"parking illegally"she spit out her drink.actually laughed this time."i love you, joie, talk to you later"[Edited on April 18, 2008 at 11:33 AM. Riddick lot is until 7PM not 5PM. You got a fair ticket.Hell I got two $10 tickets in one day without moving my car. Both for expired meter, three hours apart.I have four unpaid tickets in my car now, and paid one for forty dollars earlier this year.
4/18/2008 12:06:51 PM
Tickets are the transportation departments main, if not only source of funding. They are going to write a lot.
4/18/2008 12:10:20 PM
Truth be known I have nearly $100 dollars of parking tickets this year. But I have saved more than $100 by parking illegally, so the way I see it, I am ahead of the game.
